ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Gingerbread Decorating Day which is a day to get as much fun out of the season as possible. Baking and building and decorating a gingerbread house or decorating a gingerbread man allows for a lot of creativity and proves a lot of fun for the whole family.
The practice of making decorated gingerbread house started in Germany in the early 1800’s. Gingerbread Decorating Day is always celebrated on the 2nd Saturday of December so the date varies from years to year.

All you need is love and Christmas cookies.

The pictures today are of DS#5 and family when they decorated Gingerbread houses last year. It’s a sweet way to have a lot of fun. Making and decorating gingerbread man cookies can be a lot of fun too, and they make great gifts. I found a recipe to share today if you’d like to make some of your own
Gingerbread Cookies
3/4 c. butter, softened
3/4 c. brown sugar
2/3 c. molasses
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1.4 c. flour
1 tbsp ginger
1tsp baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp nutmeg
In a large bowl, beat butter, brown sugar and molasses until fluffy. Add egg and beat until combined.
In a medium bowl, whisk flour, spices, baking soda and salt until combined. Gradual add dry ingredients to wed ingredients until dough comes together. Divide in half and wrap each in plastic wrap and chill until firm, about 2 to 3 hours.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Taking one ball of dough at a time, place on floured surface and roll out until 1/4 inch thick. Cut out gingerbread men and transfer to baking sheets.
Bake until slightly puffed and set, about 10 minutes, depending on the size of your cookie cutters. Let cool on baking sheets for 4 mins before transferring to rack to cool completely.
Repeat with remaining dough. Let cool and decorating with icing and sprinkles as desired.
I haven’t done any baking here at my house yet, but the list is growing of what I’d like to bake and this recipe is on that list. I’m not sure how much will get done.
I ran out of paint yesterday, so today I’ll have to make a run to the craft store. It’s one of my favorite places to go, so who knows what else I may come home with. I also have a coupon for 20% off my purchase. The possibilities are endless. Ha!
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
You can’t be a smart cookie if you have a crumbly attitude.

The sweet taste of Christmas cookies is wonderful!
Looked like fun making those gingerbread houses! Today we are going to make cookies so that should be a fun activity!

How fun! I love the focused expressions on their faces! And those green containers with separate boxes is genius. A few years ago our GM thought it would be nice if each department made their own gingerbread houses. Not. My 'walls' kept collapsing and I wore icing everywhere!
As always, I love your quotes! Smart cookie is a good one and I try my best to avoid a crumbly attitude!
I’ve got all my Christmas books down and am going through them using a recipe from each one. So far I’ve made two different kinds of banana bread! Two books down - a dozen to go!
Those precious faces Looks like they are having success!
My attempts at building g-bread houses all ended terribly.
