ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Date Nut Bread Day which is the perfect dish for the holiday season. It’s delicious, healthy and easy to make.
The first date nut bread recipe appeared in print in 1939, but dates are one of the world’s oldest fruits. Historians believe that the ancient Moors brought the date to Spain and later introduced it to America.
Dates are notorious for their high sugar content, so most date nut bread recipes to not call for any additional sweeteners. To celebrate you can try your hand at baking a homemade loaf of this festive treat. Don’t forget to top it off with a little cream cheese frosting.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Winter, a lingering season, is a time to gather golden moments, embark upon a sentimental journey, and enjoy every idle hour.
John Boswell
I don’t often make date nut bread, but Date nut cookies are a family favorite this time of year. So since this holiday is about the bread, I found an easy recipe to share with you all today.
Easy Date and Nut Bread
1 c. hot water
1/2 c. chopped dates
1 tsp, soda
1 Tbsp. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
Pour hot water over dates. Add soda and butter. Cool. Ad sugar and eg. Sift together dry ingredients, gradually stir into date mixture. Add vanilla and nuts. Pour into a prepared loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees.
It wasn’t until just a few years ago that I discovered that they now have chopped dates for sale. I used to dislike chopping up dates because they were so sticky, So I’m thankful I can now buy them already chopped.
This morning I’m simmering meatballs in spaghetti sauce to take for lunch with friends today. They will be for meatball sandwiches. One of my friends is bringing a salad the other a dessert. It should be a fun get together as it’s been awhile since we’ve gotten together. There will be a lot to catch up on for sure.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS

Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

There is no place like home for comfort.
Your get together with friends sounds like fun! I like the idea of the meatball sandwiches too!

I made Tom his date nut bread only last week! Ya, I'm right there with you on chopping those sticky things … yuk. The first time I tried making that bread I failed to add enough water and blew up the mixer … really. There came a pop and smoke starting pouring out of the end. We laugh about it now, but I still don't care much for that stuff.
Now your meatballs? Yum!
My Mom (RIP) used to make date bars. She would cut them in bars after they were done baking and roll each one in powdered sugar. Oh how good they were! I love dates! Merry Christmas! Love, Andrea xoxo
I hope you had a lovely lunch with your friends! I love date and nut loaf! We like it spread with butter. It’s the best! I use my kitchen scissors to cut dates. I spraynthem with Pam first and nothingcsticks! I could eat dates just as they are ! I love them! Xoxo. PS love your little Star “placer!” Cute!
