ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Lighthouse Day which honors and commemorates a beacon of light that symbolizes safety and security for boats at sea.
On August 7, 1789, through an Act of Congress, the Federal Government took over responsibility for building and operating our nation's lighthouses. The government recognized the importance to ships at sea to find safe harbor during fog and storms. Over the years, lighthouses have saved many ships, and an untold number of lives.
Throughout maritime history, Lighthouses have shined their powerful, sweeping lights through the fog and storms, allowing ships of all kinds to find their way back to port during inclement weather. With the advent of radar and GPS technology, lighthouses have taken a back seat in guiding ships to port. However, they remain the universal symbol of safe harbor to ships and communities that rely upon the sea for their livelihood.
There are numerous local and national lighthouse preservation societies and lighthouse organizations. They serve to preserve and promote lighthouses, and their historical significance to communities, and to the nation.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
We are told to let our light shine, and if it does, we won't need to tell anybody it does. Lighthouses don't fire cannons to call attention to their shining- they just shine.

The pictures today were taken at Marblehead State Park. They say the Marblehead Lighthouse is one of Lake Erie’s best known and most photographed landmarks. These pictures are several years old now, but I’m sure that everything pretty much looks the same there.
It’s a little over an hour away from where I live and we had a beautiful day to visit there. The grounds surrounding the lighthouse offer excellent picnicking and views of Lake Erie, Sandusky Bay, Kelleys Island and South Bass Island.
Because they are constructed to withstand powerful storms, lighthouses are frequently depicted as symbols of strength. They are also used to symbolize shelter, protection and peace for the same reason.
Lighthouses lift up our spirits and inspire us. Just as the bright beacon of light guides ships along their route, directing them away from danger.
Sunday afternoon brought a surprise here at my house as two of my aunts on my dad’s side of the family came to visit after I got home from church. They wanted to see where I live now. One is 80 and the other 87 and doing really well for their ages. It was very nice to see them both and I was glad I had baked on Saturday so I had some refreshments to offer them.
The week ahead looks to be a pleasant one with temps in the upper 70’s and low 80’s. I see more porch sitting in my future.
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Raspberries and Cream Day
The easiest way to celebrate this holiday is to put some fresh raspberries over your ice cream, but I did find a recipe to share that might just be better.
Raspberries and Cream Croissants
4 to 6 fresh croissants
3 cups whipped cream or other whipped topping
1/2 cup seedless raspberry jam
1 1/4 cups fresh raspberries
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/4 cup slivered almonds or mini chocolate chips
Mix the whipped cream and almond extract in a large mixing bowl. Gently fold in the raspberry jam until slightly marbled.
Slice the croissants horizontally and generously spread with the cream. Top with the fresh raspberries and a scattering of slivered almonds and/or the optional chips.
If you don’t have croissants you can substitute biscuits or toast.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Like a
guardian Angel,
the Lighthouse stands
Sending out hope in
the night
Like a faithful friend
Reaching out a hand
Bringing comfort, truth,
and light
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military

with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

What a pleasant surprise with your aunts visiting. I am sure it was enjoyed by all. Those were great pictures from your lighthouse visit several years ago.

I enjoy learning more about lighthouses! That would be so cool to see one in person!
I'm sure their beams are comforting to those who may encounter bad weather while on the water. I like the comparison of a Guardian Angel!
Surprise visits are the best! Glad you enjoyed yours! Your chocolate chip loaf there looks very good! I love lighthouses. This is the first time in my life (since moving over here) that I have not lived near a lighthouse. One of my ancestors was a lighthouse keeper. Love and hugs to you! xoxo
