ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is U.S. Coast Guard Day which honors the military branch that protects our waters and shorelines. They are now playing an even more extensive role in Homeland Security to protect our country.
We commemorate the founding of the US Coast Guard on August 4, 1790. Think about all that the brave men and women of the Coast Guard handle for us: they protect our shores from threats, save countless lives at sea, and they're responsible for maintaining the lighthouses throughout the country.
Give a big THANK YOU to the Coast Guard personnel today and every day!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
Katharine Lee Bates
It’s no secret that I am thankful for all military men and women and the Coast Guard is no exception. As I don’t live very far away from the coast of Lake Erie the Coast Guard is in the news pretty often. Mostly rescuing people from boating accidents and saving them from drowning.
But they say that on an average day, the Coast Guard conducts 109 searches and rescues, saves ten lives, seizes 169 pounds of marijuana and 306 pounds of cocaine worth $9,589,000.00, and investigates
six vessel casualties.
I am blessed to live close to the coast here. The beach is always a favorite place of mine to be and summer is my favorite time to visit there. The first picture in today’s post is of one of our many lighthouses along the coast of Lake Erie.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day.
It’s summertime and my oven doesn’t go on very often when it’s hot out but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy some cookies. There are bakeries that do all the work and stores nearby where I can purchase as many as I want.
The recipe today is made with chocolate chip cookies and requires no baking.
No Bake Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie
1 package chocolate chip cookies
1 already prepared graham cracker pie crust
1 c. milk
1 container Cool Whip
Set aside 2 chocolate chip cookies to crumble on top of the pie. Place milk in a measuring cup. Dunk 8 cookies, one at a time, in the milk and place in a single layer in the bottom of the graham cracker crust. Dunk each cookie quickly or it will absorb too much milk and crumble apart on you. Spread 1/3 of the Cool Whip evenly over the cookies.
Dip 10 or 11 cookies, one at a time, in the milk and place in a single layer over the Cool Whip layer. Spread 1/3 of the Cool Whip evenly over the cookies. Repeat to create one more layer of cookies and one more layer of Cool Whip.
Crumble the reserved 2 cookies and sprinkle on top of the pie. Cover and chill for at least 8 hours before serving.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Gratitude takes three forms: a feeling in the heart, an expression in words, and a giving in return.
John Wanamaker
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

The Coast Guard do work hard! Glad they are willing to do so to protect us while we are on the water.

We don't hear much about the Coast Guard. It is good to have a day to honor them! Thank you for the reminder!
... Yes, the (sometimes) forgotten branch of our military! Nice to see their efforts spotlighted here.
I traveled the Great Lakes as a girl, but find it difficult all these years later to visualize their coastlines; even a light house! Beautiful!
