54 DAYS UNTIL WINTER
Sunrise: 7:54 am
Sunset: 6:29 pm
Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is Navy Day which is commonly celebrated on October 27th. This date was selected as it was the birth date of President Theodore Roosevelt, an avid supporter of the U.S. Navy. In the 1970's, research determined that the birthday of the U.S. Continental Navy was October 13, 1775. At the time, efforts were made to move Navy Day to this date. However, Navy Day in the United States, is still largely recognized as October 27th.
On Navy Day, give some well deserved attention to your proud U.S. Navy, and to the sailors who serve our country.......Salute!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
While we go sailing, sailing over the ocean blue; We’re sailors thro’ and thro’; The best you ever knew.
Irving Berlin
I’ll be saluting the Navy today as well as all the other branches of our Military today! I can’t say Thank You enough to the brave men and women that so faithfully serve our country.
Our rain continues today so it will be a good day to stay in and get some work done inside, although I do have to make a trip out to the grocery store for a few things. As October ends and November begins there will be more and more days spent indoors and keeping busy will help to pass the dreary days ahead.
We need to make our own sunshine and keep our spirits up no matter what the weather brings our way. This too is a day the Lord has made and we should rejoice and be glad in it.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Potato Day!
Did you know that more than 45 billion pounds of potatoes are harvested in the U.S. each year? We use them to make baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, home fries, French fries...the list is endless!
Potatoes are not only tasty, they’re good for you! They contain high levels of important vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin C, potassium, and iron. Today, enjoy potatoes prepared your favorite way to celebrate National Potato Day!
This is a new to me recipe but I’ll be trying it out soon.
Savory Red Cabbage and Red Potatoes
1 small head red cabbage
2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
1 pound small red potatoes

1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Meanwhile, in a glass measure, combine butter, sliced green onions, horseradish, salt and pepper. Microwave on high 45 seconds or until butter is melted. Drizzle over vegetables.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Don't give up the ship!
Captain James Lawrence, 1813
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4351. for our Sailors and all the brave men and women in the military
4352. for potatoes, so good and so very good for you too
4353. for work to do, busy hands make happy hearts
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
There are only two absolute rules of thumb at sea: Don't let the people in the water tank, and don't let the water in the people tank.

That is an interesting recipe with the red cabbage and potatoes, but sounds good. We are suppose to be 99 degrees here today. I too do appreciate the men and women who are willing to serve in our military.

I had an uncle who served in the Navy Pam! My son presently serves in Canadian Air Force. Like you I honor all of our Armed Forces. WE owe a huge debt of gratitude to all of them! Your recipe looks very good! I love potatoes and I love red cabbage! I am going to book mark this! Have a fabulous Thursday! xoxo PS - it is blustery and overcast here today! Brrr...
We have numerous Navy men in my family. My ex-husband was in the Navy when we got married. My oldest brother and two cousins served in the Navy! My grandson is soon enlisting in the Army!! I respect all the men and women in the military. Not an easy lifestyle.
