59 DAYS UNTIL WINTER
Sunrise: 7:48 am

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is Make a Difference Day which is devoted to helping others by doing volunteer work in the community. The activity can be almost anything. On this day, millions of Americans participate in community improvement projects. It takes the form of cleanup, fixup, painting, and repair in poorer neighborhoods, parks and municipal facilities. It doesn't matter whether you help a nonprofit organization, the community, your town, nursing home, a church, a food kitchen, or any other group in need. You can even donate your old clothes and blankets to shelters to help people get back on their feet and stay warm. What matters is that you participate.
Make a commitment to help others for just one day. Make a difference on Make a Difference Day!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
One person can make a difference and every person must try.
John F. Kennedy
It may sound a little trite, but today I’m hoping to make a difference in my neighborhood by mowing the grass here at my house. After a couple of warmer days and then two days of rain, it needs it. There won’t be many more weeks left to our growing season. Then the mowing will end and the mower will be put away and replaced by snow shovels instead. I prefer the mowing for sure.
I have been donating a lot of clothes, blankets and sheets to the Salvation Army. They’ll soon be getting quite a few more household items as well a few books too. I really thought I’d cleared out the books some time ago, but when going through the remaining things in the attic, I found more.
There is truly never a dull moment here at my house, but it’s all good. Just for smiles today I’m sharing pictures of some of the grand’babes’ carving up their Halloween Pumpkins last year. I’m sure there will be a lot of carving going on this weekend too as Halloween is only 8 days away.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
Today is National Nut Day
Walnut, Hazelnut, Chestnut, Kola Nuts, Pine Nuts, Cashews, and more. There are more types of nuts in the world than most people realize, and many more of these are used for food than people suspect. Most people have a favorite kind of nut, most commonly involved in a favored kind of treat, but there are varieties and uses for nuts that are not commonly known.
Did you know that the flavor in your cola originally came from the Kola Nut? Or that Beech Nuts are commonly used as feed for animals? From ages past these high fat, high protein tree seeds have served as a major source of winter survival. Their natural ability to be stored and resist decay throughout the winter has made them a valuable resource for animals and humans alike.
Nuts have notable health benefits for those with a history of Coronary Hearth Disease by lowering LDL cholesterol concentrations.
I found another Impossible Pie recipe to celebrate National Nut Day.
Impossibly Easy Pumpkin Pecan Pie
1 cup canned pumpkin
1/2 cup Bisquick baking mix
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup evaporated milk
1 tablespoon butter or margarine, softened
1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 1/2 cups Cool Whip frozen whipped topping, thawed
1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
8 pecan halves, if desired
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 9 inch glass pie plate with cooking spray. In medium bowl, stir pumpkin, Bisquick mix, sugar, milk, butter, 1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice, the vanilla and eggs until blended. Stir in chopped pecans. Pour into pie plate. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
Stir whipped topping and 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice. Garnish pie with topping and pecan halves. Store covered in refrigerator.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
When you help, you appreciate what you have and realize how blessed you are.
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU !

Harley's school had Make a Difference day on Wednesday. Her group went to the local nursing home and cleaned tables and chairs. She really enjoyed it.
I look forward to your recipes I bet this will be so good, love the pictures of the grands carving pumpkins. We're enjoying this cool day, but it will be back in the nineties next week. Take care. Jean
I've never ate a nut I didn't enjoy! :)
Those pix of your grands and their pumpkins make me smile so big!
Not having DONE anything special for Make a Difference Day, I just opted to post a YouTube video on FB -- Jimmy Durante singing, "Make Someone Happy." I think he was one of the greats.
Oh, I love it when you share photos of your grandchildren! They are so sweet. Lovely. I like the idea of make a difference day. I try to make a difference every day, but its nice to think of everyone even just doing one thing to make a difference each day. Our world could be transformed! Love all that you share, xoxo
