THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The years teach much which the days never knew.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I’m an older person but there are many a lot older than me in this world today. They say that 70 is now the new 50 and some research suggests that old age doesn’t even start till 74.
I’ve found many of my mothers sayings to be true about age. She was always saying…if you think you feel bad now just wait till you get to be my age. She also said that once she hit 70, it was all down hill. So far she’s been right on spot for me. Many will disagree about that, but I’m just saying after last winter, I discovered a new me. I am definitely not what I used to be.
Getting older has some benefits though. For me it has meant the fulfillment of doing what I like to do and no longer living with a schedule in hand, because I was able to retire and have enjoyed it for close to 6 years now. I don’t think that it really matters in life what age you are, if you take the time to appreciate and give thanks for each day, every day will be a good day.
The rain this week has been on and off and we’ve enjoyed some dry breaks in between the showers. None have been a constant all day rain by any means. They are now saying we only have a slight chance of rain for the weekend and for many that will be a relief. The coming week will bring warmer days with temps back in the 70’s.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s International Coffee Day
October 1st is celebrated annually as International Coffee Day. The unofficial holiday celebrates one of the most popular beverages in the world which is coffee.
The holiday also helps raise awareness about sustainable coffee cultivation and fair trade practices within the coffee industry.
There are many flavored coffees offered now and one of my favorites is cinnamon. I simply take my cup of coffee and stir in a little cinnamon. I looked up how to make your own flavored coffee for fall and came up with this delicious recipe to try. It’s very simple and very easy.
Homemade Pumpkin Spice Coffee
Coffee grounds, to taste
1 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice
Put your usual coffee grounds in the coffee filter and add the Pumpkin Pie Spice on top. Let the coffee brew, pour a cup, and enjoy!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Do not regret growing older. It is a privilege denied to many.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4273. for coffee, hot and steamy is my choice
4274. for older people that have made a difference in our lives
4275. for cinnamon, one of my favorite flavors
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Wrinkles should merely indicate where the smiles have been.
Mark Twain
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,

It seems whenever we hit a new decade of life, there are those changes to our body. I remember having more aches after I turned 40, a little bit of slowing down when I turned 50. A little more than a year before I turn 60, so we'll see what is ahead for that decade. I just can't believe we are in October already. The year has sped by. Even looking back at the extreme hot days we had here in summer and they seem a blur now (until next year's extreme hot weather :)

I agree with you about many of the sayings of my mother are coming true. She used to tell me to quit wishing my life away. As I couldn't wait to be 16, then 18, then 21.....she said there will come a time when you want to wish life would stop flying by. And that is true. The days, months, years go by so fast! We are having nice fall weather here in Kansas. Today is 70* The nights are in the upper 40's. Soon the snow will start to fly and I'll start to complain about the cold. LOL
YAY for Older People Day AND Coffee!
I hate to admit it, but I can't help but notice the (obvious) bias against older folks in my workplace. Heck, maybe it's becoming that way all over. But, for the most part, my interactions with 'older' workers are more positive; I'll actually seek out their lane at the grocers because I'm guaranteed to get a genuine smile and real customer service.
I agree with my mother's sayings also. I have found that once you reach age 50 it is very difficult to find a meaningful job. My brother was made redundant at age 56 and has not been able to find another job in his field, no matter that he has a University education in the field and has years of valuable experience. There are too many youngsters out there vying for the same jobs. I, like you, am enjoying my retirement. Have a blessed Sunday! xoxo
