64 DAYS UNTIL WINTER
Sunrise: 7:43 am

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is Wear Something Gaudy Day which is your chance to really stick out in a crowd. The word ‘gaudy' refers to something bright, gay, cheap, showy, outlandish, or otherwise not in good taste.
Have a little fun on this day. For just one day, forego fashion and style. Look for something to wear that's really wild and wacky, and will stick out like a sore thumb wherever you go.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Every gaudy color is a bit of truth.
Nathalia Crane
This time of year I tend to wear tee shirts or sweat shirts that are decorated for Fall or Halloween, so I suppose they might qualify as gaudy. I like to wear bright things anyway. They tend to brighten my day.
The weather has been on the warm side here so it’s once again tee shirt weather. They say that after a couple of days in the 80’s, it’s going back down to more normal temps in the 60’s and 50’s.
For the most part I’ve been mulching the leaves that have fallen from the tree out front with the mower, but the other day I did rake up 4 leaf bags full as there was too much to mulch. The tree is half bare now, but the neighboring trees are just beginning to change color, so soon I’ll be raking up those too.
Never a dull moment here at my house. Today’s pictures are of some of my children and grandchildren having some Halloween fun last year.
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Pasta Day!
Linguine, fettuccine, spaghetti, tortellini, ziti—the list of pastas is endless! Pasta is typically thought of as an Italian dish, but there is evidence that people living in Asia in 2000 BC made noodles with millet! The highest quality of dried pasta is made with pure durum semolina flour and water. To celebrate National Pasta Day, enjoy a delightful dish of your favorite type of pasta topped with a scrumptious sauce!
I do love pasta and, like rice, it’s a staple that is always in the pantry. One of my favorite dishes is Wagon Wheel Pasta. Little wagon wheel shipped posta mixed together with left over chili, which I do happen to have in the freezer right now. That is what’s for dinner tonight.
The recipe below is a new one to me that I thought I might try out soon. We’ll see…
Slow Cooker Bacon Ranch Chicken and Pasta
1 lb chicken breasts
6 slices bacon, cooked and diced
2 to 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 package ranch dressing and seasoning mix
1 can condensed cream of chicken soup
1 cup sour cream
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup water
8 oz spaghetti, cooked
Spray 4 quart slow cooker with cooking spray; place chicken breasts in cooker. In medium bowl, mix remaining ingredients except spaghetti. Pour over top of chicken. Cover; cook on Low heat setting 6 hours or on High heat setting 3 to 4 hours.
When about 15 minutes are left, cook and drain spaghetti as directed on package.
Just before serving, shred chicken with 2 forks, and toss creamy chicken mixture with cooked spaghetti.
Makes 6 servings
COUNTING MY GIFTS
I love crazy, gaudy bling.
Phillip Lim
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4321. for gaudy clothes, fun and colorful
4322. for a few warm days before it turns colder
4323. for pasta, anyway you fix it is good
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Style is the dress of thought; a modest dress, Neat, but not gaudy, will true critics please.

So cute with the pumpkins and the outfits from last Halloween. I like that chicken recipe. I plan to make it soon. Pasta is a favorite of mine too. Always a never ending job with raking leaves in fall it seems like.

National Pasta Day!! We celebrate this day at least once a week at my house. I should get the mower out today and do some leaf mulching. We'll see! Have a great Monday!
