THOUGHT FOR TODAY
As simple as it sounds, we all must try to be the best person we can: by making the best choices, by making the most of the talents we've been given.
Mary Lou Retton
I’ve seen a lot on TV recently about the Olympic Games. It’s exciting to see all the athletes gather from all over the world. Of course we tend to cheer for our home teams and hope they win. It’s hard to imagine the amount of determination and skill that goes into what it takes to be one of those contestants. It shows what can be done if we want a thing enough.
Athletes practice and practice to be the best they can be and although all of us our not athletic at all, we should all aim to be the best at whatever it is we do. I think that anything is possible if you try and even if you don’t succeed, at least you know that you did your very best. When you try your very best you’ll have no regrets.
Remember: it’s not whether you win or loose, but how you play the game.
They say that more seasonal temps in the lower 80’s are coming our way for a few days. I’m very thankful for a break from the hot days we’ve been experiencing. Todays pictures are a mixture of some summertime activities that some of my grandchildren have been experiencing.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday !
PRAYER REQUEST
DS#1 telephoned this morning to let me know that his Father in law had suddenly passed away, so I’m asking for prayers for all the family as they go through this time of sorrow and loss. May the dear Lord comfort them in their sorrow and may Bob rest in eternal peace and may perpetual light shine upon him.
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
National Oyster Day is observed annually on August 5th. Oysters are enjoyed as a seafood in many parts of the world.
Did you know there are over 100 different species of oysters? They’re typically named after the body of water in which they’re grown because oysters take on the characteristics of the water in which they live. In the U.S., east coast oysters tend to be smaller, milder and saltier. West coast oysters are creamy and sweet.
I haven’t had oysters in a long long time. My mom made panfried oysters at home years and years ago and I loved them. So I looked for a recipe to share and hope to try them again soon.
SOUTHERN FRIED OYSTERS
1 doz. large size oysters, shucked
2 eggs
2 tbsp. cream
2 tbsp. flour
Dash of paprika, salt and pepper to taste
1 c. cracker meal
1 1/2 c. cooking oil
10 to 12 inch fry pan, cast iron is best
Beat eggs and cream, stir in flour and seasonings and mix until smooth. Dip oysters in batter then in cracker meal, well coated. Fry in hot oil until golden brown about 15 minutes, drain them on paper towel and serve hot.
Note: Canned oysters are not as flavorful as fresh ones but can serve as a substitute when fresh oysters are not available.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4105. for athletes, good reminder for all to do their best
4106. for oysters, delicious pan fried
4107. for more seasonal temps
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!

that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen

Said a prayer for your DS#1 and family. I was never much into oysters, I think I have had them maybe once in my life, wasn't too impressed with them, LOL.
It is exciting to watch the Olympics. I always get a sense of pride when an athlete from our country wins a gold medal and they play the National Anthem at the awards assembly.

I am so sorry about your son's FIL. I will send up a prayer for the family. Sudden, unexpected deaths are the worst. I love oysters. It was my first solid food as a baby. My mom said that my dad mashed it up and fed it to me. I've loved them ever since.
We are watching the opening ceremonies right now! Love the summer Olympics
