Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Mail Order Catalog Day. Although Benjamin Franklin has a good claim to be the world’s first mail order entrepreneur, it is the anniversary of the first Montogomery Ward catalogue of 1872 that has provided the date for Mail Order Catalog Day. Alas, the Montgomery Ward is no longer with us, having faded away in 1985. With the advances in Internet technology, printed mail order catalogs are quickly being replaced by online shopping.
Today we celebrate the old fashioned way of shopping.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
You learn something every day if you pay attention.
Ray LeBlond
I do have fond memories of catalog shopping. Everyone in the family loved to look through the catalogs when they would come in the mail. I did a lot of shopping that way when the babes were small. Like most, I have done some internet shopping, but will never forget the fun of getting a new catalog in the mail.
I’m sure there has been some back to school shopping going on in my family. Some of the grandchildren have already had their first day of school this week and before long they’ll all be back to school. So I thought I share this little prayer for students and teachers that they’ll be blessed with a happy new school year.
Look upon our students Lord. Let them enjoy their learning and take delight in new discoveries. Help them to persevere in their studies and give them the desire to learn all things well. And Look upon our teachers. Let them strive to share their knowledge with gentle patience and endeavor always to bring the truth to eager minds.
We ask this in the powerful name of Christ our Lord! Amen.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday !

Mix Eagle Brand milk and Cool Whip, stirring gently. Slowly stir in chocolate milk. Pour in gallon freezer and freeze in normal way. Makes 1 gallon.
COUNTING MY GIFTS

Margaret Cousins
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4144. for catalogs, they do bring back memories
4145. for soft ice cream, best in a waffle cone
4146. for the rainy days we’ve had, we really needed them
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
ADVICE FOR TODAY
The Laws of Clothing Shopping:
If you like it, they don't have it in your size.
If you like it and it fits, you can't afford it.
If you like it, it fits and you can afford it, it falls apart the first time you wear it.
If the shoe fits, its ugly.
Proverb
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,
ma

I like that recipe for soft ice cream :)
I do remember looking through catalogs and "dreaming" when I was younger for this and that. And then when the kids came along and we got catalogs, I would have them mark what they wanted for Christmas and then shop that way. So much quicker than going to the store :) Online shopping is nice, but I do miss getting all the catalogs we did get at one time and enjoyed looking through them.
betty
We grew up with the Sears catalog. My mom would sit down with it every summer and order everything we would need for school for the next year. From underwear to coats and shoes. She placed one order and that is all we got until the next year. If we outgrew things, too bad. Wore hand me downs from an older sibling. Even shoes. Once a year was all she could afford. And it took her an entire year to pay that order off. Oh the memories!! Now most all of my shopping is done on-line!
Oh, I just remembered something from my childhood. When we would get a new Sears Catalog, our mother would give us the one and we would cut out the figures and make paper dolls out of them! Gee, we played with those bits of paper as if they were the most expensive toys! :-)
