THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Happiness is, being able to quack like Donald Duck
Donald Duck is one of Disney’s most popular characters. Donald is always getting into trouble, and he is always on one adventure or another. There is a lot to be learned from this duck.
Pay attention to what you are doing.
Donald is a character who often begins a project but doesn’t actually pay attention to what he is doing. There are usually penalties to pay for his lack of forethought.
Watch your temper
Donald is known for his terrible temper. It doesn’t take much to set him off, and it almost always gets him in trouble. This is one lesson that is beneficial to learn early in life. Temper tantrums can land you in more trouble that you think.
Make good decisions
Sometimes Donald makes poor choices, and he ends up regretting them. We all need to know the importance of making smart choices.
Take responsibility for your actions
There are occasions when Donald makes lousy decisions and doesn’t take responsibility. At these times, he can wind up in some pretty dire situations. There are also times when he does take responsibility and his friends gladly rally around him. Being responsible for our actions is vital.
Always see the possibilities
One thing that Donald unquestionably has going for him is that he sees possibilities all the time. He is always trying something new, and whether he is successful or not doesn’t seem to matter much to him. It doesn’t keep him down at all; nor does it keep him from trying something new in the future.
Not bad lessons at all for all of us. He never gives up. He is always knocked down but he always gets back up. He’s a trooper.
It cooled down here in the 60’s and lower 70’s here for a couple days, but it’ll be warming up again they say. Summer will be with us for a few short months now so we’ll just be trying to enjoy them all before the real cold of fall and winter comes again.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday !
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day!
This sweet and tangy treat was first made popular during the early 1800's, about 30 years after Benjamin Franklin introduced rhubarb, nicknamed pieplant, to the East Coast. With strawberry season starting, what better way to celebrate this old favorite than to bake one yourself. Yum!
Rhubarb is actually a vegetable so this makes strawberry rhubarb pie one of the rare pies that combines fruits and vegetables. Any dessert that gets us to eat our veggies definitely deserves its own day.
I recently purchased one from the bakery and enjoyed it very much but am including this recipe in case you want to try making your own.
Strawberry Rhubarb Pie
2 cups sliced strawberries
2 cups cut up rhubarb
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup flour
3 tablespoons quick cooking tapioca
3 eggs
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 box refrigerated pie crusts, softened as directed on box
In large bowl, mix strawberries, rhubarb and lemon juice. In medium bowl, mix sugar, flour, tapioca, eggs, salt and cinnamon. Stir into fruit mixture; set aside 15 minutes.
Heat oven to 400°F. Place 1 pie crust in ungreased 9-inch glass pie plate. Press crust firmly against side and bottom. Spoon filling into crust lined pie plate. Top with second crust. Wrap excess top crust under bottom crust edge, pressing edges together to seal; flute. Cut slits or shapes in several places in top crust.
Bake about 15 minutes or until crust is light golden brown. Place cookie sheet on oven rack below pie in case of spillover. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F. Bake 40 to 45 minutes longer or until golden brown.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.
Albert Schweitzer
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
3934. for cartoons, they can teach us valuable life lessons

That was fun to read about Donald (Duck)!!
So true that Donald would get knocked down by this or that, but he always picked himself up and kept on going. I've never had rhubarb pie; I keep saying I'm going to do so, but haven't gotten around to it; might have to make this strawberry and rhubarb one when it cools down a bit.
betty
amen
Donald was always my favorite Disney character. I can really relate to him. I don't care for rhubarb. But my sister grows it and makes it into pie and cans some every year.
