3 DAYS UNTIL SUMMER

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Each year on the third Friday in June, it is National Flip Flop Day! Find your flip flops and wear them!
The story behind the special day for wearing flip flops was started by Tropical Smoothie Cafe as a way to thank customers. They give away free smoothies on the third Friday in June to anyone wearing flip flops. National Flip Flop Day has also become a fundraiser for Camp Sunshine, a retreat for children with life threatening illnesses.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Summer Time an' the livin' is easy…
Hayward DuBose. Porgy and Bess
I found my flip flops and have been wearing them. I’ve got several pairs in different colors and wear them often all summer long. Summertime means a lot of hot weather and when it gets steamy out, I like to let my feet breath.
The lazy hazy days of summer are about to begin here and even though I lead a relaxed life style, things are about to get even more so for me. If anything at all gets done around here it’s early or late when it’s not so hot out. Thankfully we’re not experiencing the triple digit temps that many have already.
Remember to keep yourself well hydrated, use your sunscreen and avoid the heat of the day between noon and three in the afternoon.
I hope you all FANTASTIC Friday !
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Eat Your Vegetables Day!
Strategically placed in the middle of National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month, this day is the perfect opportunity to reintroduce a healthy portion of vegetables into your diet. No doubt about it, Eat Your Vegetables Day was created to promote a more healthy diet for life!
When I was a young mom of seven children many of the dinners I fixed were in the form of casseroles. So I thought I share a wonderful vegetable casserole with you all today.
Crowd Pleasing Vegetable Casserole
1 can Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 1/2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
2/3 cup sour cream
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 16 oz. packages vegetable blend, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cooked and drained
2 cans French Fried Onions, about 2 2/3 cups
Stir the soup, 1 cup cheese, sour cream, black pepper, vegetables and 1 can onions in a 3 quart shallow baking dish.
Bake at 400°F. for 20 minutes or until the vegetable mixture is hot and bubbling. Stir the vegetable mixture. Sprinkle with the cheese and remaining onions.
Bake for 5 minutes or until the onions are golden brown.

COUNTING MY GIFTS
What is so rare as a day in June?
Then, if ever, come perfect days. . .
James Russell Lowell
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
3958. for flip flops, I wear them all summer
3959. for vegetables, good and good for you
3960. for a shady porch to sit on
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time.
Sir John Lubbock
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,
ma

I like that casserole; won't make it this weekend with the heat, but will do so soon. I like that National Flip Flop day is a fundraiser for that camp! Sounds like a good adventure for it. I'm proudly wearing my flip flops today :)
betty
I am one of those rare creatures who doesn't like wearing flip flops. It bugs me to have something between my toes. Yummy sounding casserole!
This will be a long comment.... when I was a kid in the fifties and sixties, flip flops were called thongs, in Kansas City, Kansas. The ONLY place you wore your thongs was at the swimming pool... you took them off when you left and they went into your beach bag. We never wore them at home. I have a friend who rarely wears anything else, but to this day, I can't wear them around. I tried... :-) I.Just.Can't. Do. It. :-)
