Life is a Special Occasion!

On the third Thursday in June, National Dump the Pump Day encourages people to ride public transportation instead of driving and save money.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Everything in life is somewhere else, and you get there in a car.
E.B. White
It used to be that not everyone owned a car and if they did, it was rare indeed to have more than one car. You made do with walking or taking public transportation and even car pooling. These days many families have two or three cars. We’ve gotten used to going when we want to and not having to wait on a bus to come along. Here in my town there isn’t a whole lot of public transpiration and the few bus routes we do have seem to be aimed at the college population. That pretty much leaves me with walking a lot if I didn’t own a car.
Most drivers have largely ignored one easy way to conserve fuel: ease up on the gas pedal. Fuel consumption goes up pretty rapidly if you drive 75 versus 55. Slow down and remember that the ride is just as important as the destination.
There are some thunderstorms rolling through our part of the country this morning. We do need the rain but hopefully we won’t get any bad storms. They are saying it’ll clear out tomorrow and the weekend ahead is to be sunny and gorgeous.
I hope you all have a day! Happy Thursday !
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Fudge Day
There are so many different varieties of fudge to choose from. There’s everything from your standard chocolate to caramel to peanut butter. Whichever is your favorite, you must join in the fun. Indulge a bit and have some fudge on June 16th!
I found this recipe to share that sounds absolutely delicious!
Fanny Mae Fudge
1 cup butter
4 cups sugar
1 cup whole milk
25 large marshmallows
OR
2 cups miniature marshmallows
2 ounces Baker's unsweetened chocolate
12 ounces milk chocolate chips
12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped, optional
Line a 9 by 13 pan with aluminum foil, butter the insides and set aside.
Combine sugar, milk, vanilla and butter in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil for 2 minutes. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Add in the chocolates, all three kinds, and remove from heat. Stir until melted. Add nuts.
Pour into prepared pan. Cool and cut into 1 inch squares.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Walking isn't a lost art - one must, by some means, get to the garage.
Evan Esar
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
3955. for my car, it gets me where I need to go
3956. for rain, we need it
3957. for chocolate, always good
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY

Oh my gosh with it being National Fudge Day! Fudge is one of my favorite desserts. My mom and sister would make the best chocolate fudge at Christmastime, always a treat!
For the majority of my growing up years we didn't have a car. We got a round a lot with walking and public transportation. I think I would do similar here if I worked outside the house. Figure out how to catch the bus, etc., to get where I wanted to go. Of course though, not in the hot temps :)

Oh I love fudge. I dare not make any. I will eat it all! We have small buses here in my town but I have never been on one. And they don't come anywhere near my house so I couldn't ride it to town anyway. We walked everywhere when I was a kid. You should see the look I get when I suggest to my grandchildren that they walk somewhere!!
I am thinking of Charles lindburgh, his children said he refusedc to go over 55 miles an hour in a car! Guess he knew a thing or two about conserving fuel!
Mmmm . . . fudge. My mom made lovely peanut butter fudge. It was a real taste treat! Dump the pump. Oh, that we could. There are so many cars on the roads over here. Unfortunately everything is so far away now that we need a car to get there. Our church is in Wales, not many corner shops left. Life was much simpler without cars and things were a lot closer! Have a super Friday! xo
