Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is National Trails Day which was established to celebrate, improve and enjoy America's magnificent trail system. It is the nation's largest celebration of trails, and all that goes with it. In addition to the national trail system, there are countless miles of state, county and local town trail systems for you enjoy. While today is a celebration of national trails, it is perfectly fine to celebrate all trails in our great nation.
Happy Trails to you!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Common sense and good nature will do a lot to make the pilgrimage of life not too difficult
William Somerset Maugham
We have a lot of trails to hike here in Ohio. I’m happy to say that I have walked a few of them. Not so much anymore at all, but I have some wonderful memories of those times.
There’s a lot we can learn by taking a hike. If you've never experienced what it means to follow a path for the love of the journey and not in a mad rush to get to the end, you're missing out on one of life's simple pleasures. Hiking teaches you to slow down, and observe the world around you.
On the trail, you learn that as long as you put one foot in front of the other, you're getting somewhere. 'Keep going' is a simple lesson, and when it’s applied to other aspects of life, it can produce major results.
A hike gives you the rare opportunity to clear your head of all the clutter. You learn that solitude can be inspiring. Hiking teaches you to look at the world and life itself with the curious and observant eyes of a child so you don't miss the little joys. All good lessons for leading a good life.
There is no hiking here at my house today, but maybe the hikes I take up and down the stairs that are a necessity. Still and all I’ve learned the lessons well and always take time out to enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
The pictures today are of a hike I was able to take one year some time ago with DS#6 and his wife.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday !
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Applesauce Cake Day
Applesauce Cake Day is a time to enjoy an old and often forgotten goodie. I happen to have some left over applesauce in the fridge so I may just have to make one today !
Did you know that in any cake recipe, applesauce may be substituted for the butter or oil for a healthier alternative.
I found an easy recipe to use
Applesauce Cake Made with Cake Mix
1 package yellow cake mix
1 can, 16 ounce size, applesauce
3 eggs
Combine cake mix and beaten eggs, mix well, stir in applesauce.
Bake for 30 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees in greased tube or Bundt pan. Cool for 15 minutes before removing from pan.
Dust with cinnamon sugar.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
One step at a time is good walking.
Chinese Proverb
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
3919. for trails that I’ve hiked, just beautiful
3920. for apples and applesauce, always good and good for you
3921. for the stairs here at home, they provide exercise I’d not get otherwise.
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
ADVICE FOR TODAY
It's the way you ride the trail that counts.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to be taking a hike in the mountains on this beautiful day!
Looked like a nice place to go hiking. Yum on the applesauce cake, but no baking here, supposed to be 116 degrees!

Everything is so green!
Gee, I've not been hiking since Girl Scouts. Perhaps before leaving Arizona I'd like to hike Camelback ... but the mercury had better drop 40-50 degrees before I do!
Your applesauce sounds yummy. I will have to bake me one.
delicious recipe
