Life is a Special Occasion!

It’s Finally Summer Day ! It’s the Summer Solstice which is the longest day of the year. The amount of daylight only goes down from here....for the next six months. Summer Solstice is the meteorological start of summer. It's time to enjoy vacations, great weather, pools, baseballs, and everything else that goes along with the favorite season of kids and most adults. Grab your favorite beverage and enjoy the season, because for many of us it is all too short.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it.
Russell Baker
Here in my part of the world these warm summer days will be far too short. Truth be told we have many more cold and dark and cloudy days than hot and sunny ones.
It’s hard to believe that we’ve reached the longest day of the year and now minute by minute, slowly but surely our daylight hours will decrease. I do love the longer days. I feel like I’m just finally recovering from the lack of daylight. I hibernated all during the long days of winter and it feels good to feel awake !
With high temps in the 90’s for a few days, I have stayed indoors a lot, but it’s nice to step outside and feel warm and not freezing. The early mornings and late evenings are very enjoyable.
A few people said that they’d like to see the Duck Tape Float that DS#5 participated in and so that is what the pictures are of today. The theme of this years festival was very patriotic and Mount Rushmore, the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell and the American Eagle were represented. All made of Duck Tape. My son didn’t get an interview, but said the Today Show did tape the parade and it is to show this coming Friday morning.
I hope you all have a great start to the new week ahead. Happy Monday !
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Ice Cream Soda Day
Ice Cream Soda Day is a great summer cooler. It's hot. It's muggy. And, an Ice Cream Soda is a flavorful way to cool off. The flavor of Ice Cream Soda is your choice. Any will do. Chocolate and vanilla are the most popular. But, don't shy away from being creative with the flavor of ice cream or soda.
Fantastic Old Fashioned Ice Cream Soda
1/4 cup milk
tablespoons chocolate syrup
1 cup vanilla ice cream, 1 large scoop
cold club soda
canned whipped cream, optional
Pour the milk into one tall 16 ounce glass. Stir in syrup. Add in ice cream and enough soda water to fill almost to top of glass. Top with whipped cream if desired. Serve with a long spoon and a big straw.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
People take pictures of the Summer, just in case someone thought they had missed it, and to proved that it really existed.
Ray Davies
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
3967. for Summer fun under the sun
3968. for Ice Cream, always a delight when it’s hot out
3969. for my good cup of Vanilla Biscotti Coffee this morning
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
ADVICE FOR TODAY

A bit of love from someone dear…

How cool with that float! A lot of hard work put into it! It is hard to imagine it is summer already! Hubby did learn something interesting on the news the other day. He heard a report where people who live in hot weather like this can also be affected by seasonal affective disorder with not enough light because they tend to stay inside sometimes behind dark drapes, etc., to avoid the heat. I found that interesting. I might not go outside a lot during the hot days but do keep a lot of light shining in the house so maybe that's why I haven't been affected by it so far this year.
