Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Kitchen Klutzes of America Day which honors those who would like to cook and be in the kitchen, but it just doesn’t seem to work well for them. On this day, we pay tribute to that can do spirit as practice does make perfect, eventually. Hang in there and in the meantime, you may want to consider switching to less expensive serving ware and keeping your favorite delivery places on speed dial. Having a well concealed first aid kit nearby probably wouldn't be a bad idea either.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
...a messy kitchen is a happy kitchen and this kitchen is delirious
Author Unknown
I have to admit that I sure have had my share of kitchen messes and burnt crusts. But that didn’t stop me from trying. No use in crying over spilt milk! More than not things turn out right and I’ve grown to like my own cooking.
Home cooking is supposed to be better for you. Taking the time to plan your weekly menu not only helps to save time and money, but also provides a way to create meals with a balance of protein, carbohydrates and fat, plus all the essential vitamins and minerals needed for the adult and child’s body. When eating balanced meals your body feels satisfied, has fewer cravings and this in turn prevents late night snacking.
It looks like a great week ahead with temps in the upper 70’s to mid 80’s. The first of our day lilies has bloomed, the roses are slowly but surly coming along, blooms are appearing in my wheelbarrow planter and I spotted what looked to be a real lady bug on the roses, not the oriental version.
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday !
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
June 13th is National Lobster Day!
Lobster can be grilled, boiled, steamed, or baked. If your grilling you can grill whole lobster, lobster tails or split lobster. All are very delicious and easily cooked along side other grill meats as well.
Truth be told, I’ve never cooked a lobster but one of my favorite restaurants is Red Lobster. So I thought I’d share a copycat recipe from Red Lobster today.
Red Lobster Style Cheddar Bay Biscuits
2 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
3/4 cup light cream or half and half plus more for brushing the biscuits
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
Add the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, sugar, onion powder, Old Bay, and salt and whisk to blend the ingredients. Add the cubed butter and with a pastry blender mix just enough to leave small butter pieces throughout the dough.
Pour the dough into a large bowl and gently stir in 3/4 cup cream and the cheese just until the dough is evenly moistened
Do not stir too much or you will overwork the dough and the biscuits won't be tender.
Divide the dough into 12 balls and place on the baking sheets, leaving about 1 1/2 inches of space between each. Lightly brush the top of each biscuit with cream.
Bake for 15 minutes, until the biscuits are puffy and golden brown at the edges. Transfer to a rack to cool while you make the buttery topping.
BUTTERY TOPPING
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley
Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons butter in a saucepan over low heat. Whisk in the garlic powder and Old Bay until incorporated, then stir in the parsley.
Brush the warm biscuits with the buttery topping and serve immediately.
COUNTING MY GIFTS

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY

I always like the biscuits from Red Lobster. I'll have to try this recipe down the road when fall and winter bring cooler temps.
I think we all learn from our kitchen disasters. I too have had a few over the years. They sometimes can bring many good laughs as we remember this or that experiment that didn't prove to be too tasty :)

It was hot here in Alabama today I think it got up to 100 degrees, but we had a thunder storm late this afternoon and cool thing down some. I’m going to try your biscuit recipe I know they will be so good. Take care, jean.
I agree with you Pam. No point in crying over spilt milk! I have had my share of spilt milk through the years! Thanks for all that you share. You're a treasure! Love the Biscuit recipe. I have made these on numerous occasions and they are very tasty indeed! God bless your day! xoxo
