Today is Bill of Rights Day. To Americans, the Bill of Rights are key amendments to the U.S. Constitution, that protect our individual rights.
On March 4, 1789, the Constitution of the United States of America was ratified by the (former)13 colonies, and went into effect. States and individuals were concerned that the Constitution did not properly cover and protect a number of rights of individuals. The Constitution was signed by the original 13 states with the requirement, or understanding, that a Bill of Rights would be created, amending the new U.S. Constitution.
On September 25, 1789, the First Congress of the United States proposed to the state legislatures 12 amendments to the Constitution. 10 of these amendments were added to the Constitution on December 15, 1791.

We are blessed to live in a country where we have individual rights. When you think about it, there are many that live where they have very little right to anything. Today, when many people throughout the world are persecuted for their beliefs, we as Americans are guaranteed religious and other freedoms. It is important that we take a moment to reflect upon and embrace the forethought of our Founding Fathers and apply their wisdom to the context that we live in today. This collection of ten amendments to the United States Constitution are what guarantee the sanctity of our individual rights and freedoms and what in the end sets America apart from any nation before or since. This day right in the middle of the month of December reminds us all of how blessed we are. Tis the season to celebrate !
It’s going to be a busy week here at my house and I’m sure it’ll be the same for many of you too. Finishing up the wrapping and the baking are tops on my list of things to do. I also have some gifts to mail out to family out of town. I’ve had the worst time of it trying to find a box that will fit what I want to send out. I never even considered that when I choose what I wanted to paint for my family this year. What a predicament to be in. Thankfully DS#5 is going to try and make some up for me. Hopefully they will get in the mail soon.

10 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS
Christmas cards and holiday letters are spilling in from the mailbox these days, so take note! Their arrival means it's time to update the address book. Check cards and envelopes for address changes and update address books for those who have moved or changed telephone numbers.
If you are too busy right now just toss envelopes into a file folder, then when life slows down in January, it'll be easy to check return addresses against address book entries and update as needed.

That's a good tip about updating addresses from Christmas cards, Ma. A lot of people can move from year to year.
I too am glad we live in a country that has the freedom that we have. I'm glad there is a day to celebrate it too with the Bill of Rights; I hope schools take advantage of it and teach kids about our freedoms :)
