Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
December 26th is Candy Cane Day. Yes, this veritable symbol of tasty festivity has a dedicated day, so if you ever needed an excuse to stockpile them or indulge now you have it. While it is described as a symbol of festivity, the candy cane is steeped in religious symbolism, as most Christmas items are. The candy cane’s red is representative of Jesus’ blood, while the white is for purity. This is said to be designed by an Indiana candy maker in 1847. Also, if you turn one upside down it looks like a ‘J’, for Jesus. But whatever way you hold it, the taste is the same.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The Candy Cane
A significant symbol of Christmas
Is the simple candy cane.
Its shape is the crook of the shepherd,
One of the first who came.
The lively peppermint flavor is
The regal gift of spice.
The white is Jesus' purity
The red is sacrifice
The narrow stripes are friendship
And the nearness of his love.
Eternal sweet compassion
A gift from God above
The candy cane reminds us all
Of how much God cared
And like His Christmas gift to use
It's meant to be broken and shared.
I love candy canes and have found so many different uses for them. I like to put one in my hot chocolate and stir it around making for a delicious mint chocolate flavor. I also crush them up and mix them with cool whip for a delicious dip for Pirouline’s, those delicious rolled wafers with chocolate in the middle. If you haven’t tried it is is delicious!
Some people like to dip the ends in melted chocolate too making for a double tasty treat. There is truly lots to do with candy canes…they are always good !
This recipe for Candy Cane Pretzel Bark only has 3 ingredients and can be made and ready to eat in 10 minutes. I’d say that was a dessert win for sure!
waffle pretzels
1 16 ounce package white Almond Bark
Peppermint Crunch sprinkles or crushed candy canes
Line a 15 by 10 Jelly Roll Pan with foil and make sure the edges wrap around the end of the pan. You don’t want it to move while you work. Then spread rows of waffle pretzels over the entire pan edge to edge.
Melt a package of White Almond Bark and spread it over all the pretzels. Go slowly so the pretzels do not move all over the place.
Then sprinkle away with crushed candy canes or Peppermint Sprinkles. Pop the whole pan in the fridge for 5 minutes while it sets up. Then start breaking apart the pretzels in sections. Using waffle pretzels means you have straight lines, and the bark will break apart in nice squares. You can break it into 1 inch pretzel square, which is perfect for filling little jars for gifts. Or you can break them into 2 by 2 squares and package them into treat bags.
Here at my house I don’t have waffle pretzels so I’m going to try it with some Christmas shaped ones that I have. We’ll see how that works !
I hope you all have a great day ofter Christmas. Many will spend the day shopping for Christmas sales or making exchanges. I think I’ll just enjoy the peace and quiet of the day here. Tomorrow will be our family celebration and it will be a very busy one.
Whatever you do, Have a fantastic Friday!

ADVICE FOR TODAY
Christmas isn't about candy canes, or lights all aglow. It's the hearts that we touch , and the care that we show.
Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas.

A bit of love from someone dear…

Candy canes are indeed a delightful treat! My sister in law used them to make place seatings for our gathering yesterday. I'll have to try one in hot chocolate sometime; sounds delicious!
