NEW IN THE KITCHEN
Eat a Hoagie Day!
Some call the sandwich a hero, a sub, or even a grinder. But the original Hog Island sandwich is honored today, Eat a Hoagie Day! European settlers purchased Hog Island from the Lenape Indians in 1680. The settlers gradually developed the island by building log and earthwork dikes to minimize storm damage and convert the marshes into good grazing meadows. Hog Island supposedly got its name from the pigs which local residents left to roam free, as no fencing was needed.
Italians working on Hog Island introduced the sandwich, by putting various meat, cheese, and lettuce between two slices of bread. This became known as the Hog Island sandwich; hence, the hoagie
Hoagies are large made to order sandwiches filled with meat, cheeses, lettuce and tomatoes. The original hoagies are topped off with oregano vinegar dressing. An original hoagie sandwich is assembled on an Italian roll. For the cultural connoisseur, a genuine Italian hoagie is made with Italian ham, prosciutto, salami and provolone cheese, along with a full complement of vegetables and condiments.
2 tsp. red wine vinegar
1 tbsp. dried oregano
1 tbsp. olive oil
4 hoagie rolls
1/4 lb. prosciutto thinly sliced
1/4 lb. capicola, a type of ham that is round and spicy, thinly sliced
1/4 lb. genoa salami thinly sliced
1/4 lob provolone cheese
1 large tomato thinly sliced
1 small onion thinly sliced
1/8 cup shredded lettuce
Slice the rolls, but not all the way through.
Place the vinegar and oregano in a small bowl. Slowly whisk in the oil until emulsified.
Remove some of the bread from the center of each half of roll if desired.
Drizzle a little of the olive oil mixture on the bread. Place first the meats, then the cheese in layers.
Top with the tomatoes, onions, then the lettuce. Drizzle with more of the dressing, as desired.

AROUND HOME
You can't wrap love in a box, but you can wrap a person in a hug.

Hugs are an important expression of affection. By hugging someone , you remind them that you care about them and support them. I know that one of the things I miss the most since I live by my self is the hugs.
There is something in a simple hug
That always warms the heart;
It welcomes us back home
And makes it easier to part
A hug's a way to share joy
And sad times we go through,
Or just a way for friends to say
They like you cause you're you
Hugs are meant for anyone
For whom we really care,
From your grandma to your neighbor
Or a cuddly teddy bear
A hug is an amazing thing
It's just the perfect way
To show the love we're feeling
But can't find the word to say
It's funny how a little hug
Makes everyone feel good;
In every place and type
It's always understood
And hugs don't need new equipment,
Special batteries or parts
Just open up your arms
And open up your hearts
I got some really wonderful news from DS#6 yesterday. The tests are complete and one of the lumps was a fat tumor and the other some kind of residue, NO cancer. Thank the dear Lord for his many blessings!
And MORE good news, yesterday DS#3 and his wife became the proud parents of a darling baby girl.
September 13th was a very good day!
Hope your Wednesday is a wonderful one!

COUNTING THE DAYS
A hug delights and warms and charms,
that must be why God gave us arms.

Congratulations on the baby girl, what a blessing. Also, thank the Lord for the fat tumor. I have one in my leg and it's frightful but luckily non eventful. I just need to loose a bit of weight and it will go away. I hopes it's the same for your loved one.
I love hugs, don't you. Just love them. Sometimes it's all it takes is a soft hug.
Hugs
Tammy
(((HUGS))) for the gret news about DS6 and DS3. A reprieve from cancer is as welcome as the birth of a new baby. The 13th is definitely not a bad luck day for you.
Does it count if I hugged a crabby daughter? Not quite a stranger I know.
Pam, thank the Lord for the good news on both counts!
Hope your day is special.
