ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
SEPTEMBER 27TH, 2011
It's TUESDAY!
ANCESTOR APPRECIATION DAY
Today is Ancestor Appreciation Day. Hey, without them, we wouldn't be here.
It's estimated that genealogy is the second most popular hobby among Americans. Gardening is number one. Figuring out your family tree can be pretty fun and lead to some interesting discoveries.
The observance of this day gives us the chance to reflect on our ancestors, learn more about them and the ways in which they influenced each of our lives. Many of us in the hustle and bustle of everyday life have never taken the time to fully understand and appreciate our extended families. Traditions are forgotten and the link between the generations slowly fades away until it is nothing more than a whispered notion.
So start your investigations today and then thank your ancestors for being awesome enough to have you for a descendant.
Ancestor Appreciation Day can give us new insight into those who came before us. If we will but take this little known and often neglected holiday to heart we can learn of the many fascinating and colorful individuals who make up our past.
Our ancestors dwell in the attics of our brains as they do in the spiraling chains of knowledge hidden in every cell of our bodies.

NEW IN THE KITCHEN
CORNED BEEF HASH DAY
Hash is a culinary term for a mixture of foods that have been finely chopped or diced. One popular variety is that traditional American comfort food, corned beef hash. This dish of corned beef, onions, potatoes, spices and other chopped up throw-ins is a hearty and filling breakfast food. It's National Corned Beef Hash Day. Wake up to the possibilities!
I love hash and eggs and I even use the canned variety of Corned Beef Hash, but here is a recipe for making your own homemade hash.
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
1 1/2 cup corned beef, cooked, chopped
4 eggs
4 cups potato, cooked, peeled, diced
1 can cream of celery soup
1/4 cup milk
In 10" skillet over medium heat, in hot butter, cook potatoes 2 minutes; stir often. Stir in next 4 ingredients; heat through. Stir in corned beef. Reduce heat to low.
Make 4 indentations in potato mixture. Break an egg into each. Cover; cook 10 minutes or until eggs are set.
Makes 4 servings
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU!
AROUND HOME
A Pack Rat is hard to live with, but makes a Fine Ancestor
Nothing says heirloom more than old family photographs and quilts. I have both here at my house. I love the quilt that my grandmother made and that was given to me many years ago. I have family photos that show how times have changed over the years too.
Family history is very important if for nothing else than to see how people lived and why things were done in a certain way. I often think that many of the old tales and beliefs are worth repeating and still apply to us today.
Family is everything. It defines you--the heart of your spirit, the heritage of your smile, not only the color of your eyes but how they see the world. You are bound by kinship. You add your own link to the chain, and that is where you strengthen or weaken what you have been blessed--or burdened--with. That is where you use the indefinable quality that belongs to only you, the bit of uniqueness you pass on to your children for good or bad, the part of you that will always be separate from those who share your name, your blood, and your past
SOOOOO Many Ancestors - So little time!
