ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
AUGUST 19TH, 2011
If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side
It's FRIDAY!
National Aviation Day
National Aviation Day is in honor of the birthday of aviator Orville Wright.
The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, were pioneer aviators in the United States. Orville was the first person to successfully fly an airplane. His first flight was December 17, 1903 at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. This inaugural flight was soon to change the skies forever.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt established this day to recognize the development of aviation.
This day was selected, as it is Orville Wrights's birthday. August 19, 1871
Today we appreciate the work of aviators over the years to develop fast, safe air travel for all.
More than anything else the sensation is one of perfect peace mingled with an excitement that strains every nerve to the utmost, if you can conceive of such a combination.

National Potato Day
Here's a holiday to celebrate one totally tubular tuber! The potato is a versatile food source and contributes to so many favorite recipes worldwide. The average annual diet of a global citizen is 73 pounds of potato and the world's top potato producer is China. So get up, couch potatoes, it's time to start peeling, slicing, mashing and frying to get your fill of potatoes today.
Although they were first feared to be poisonous by Northern Europeans in the 16th century, potatoes have been a popular aspect of diets around the world for centuries and even contain vitamins and minerals vital to human nutrition.
Did you know that more than 45 billion pounds of potatoes are harvested in the U.S. each year We use them to make baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, au gratin potatoes, potato chips, potato soup, french fries...the possibilities for how to cook them are endless!
Hungry yet? Now you have some ideas for how celebrate National Potato Day!When we celebrated with DS#2 this summer he had a wonderful Mashed Potato Bar and I plan to have one at our next family holiday celebration too.
You see these frequently offered by caterers and they are just as easy to serve at home. You simply serve a scoop of mashed potatoes in a martini glass and then set up a buffet of toppings. The best part about this kind of meal is that you can cater it to your own tastes. Try topping your potatoes with shredded chicken, grilled veggies or your favorite chili. The options are endless!
It's an inexpensive option but one you can make look elegant. And everybody loves mashed potatoes

selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

AROUND HOME
Aeronautics is more miracle than science
Friday to Friday, it comes so fast. The days fly by me into the past...
Remember:
Life Is A Miracle
Life is a miracle
Don't let it slip away,
Open your heart to others
Give of yourself each day.
See the beauty in everyone
Regardless of where they've been,
Some have a difficult journey
And really need a friend.
Share your gifts and talents
Listen with your heart.
Do the things you dream about
But don't have time to start.
Pick a bouquet of flowers
Show someone that you care,
Be gracious and forgiving
Life is never fair.
Hold on to your courage
You may need it down the road,
We all have a cross to bear
It could be a heavy load.
If you practice all these things
No matter where you roam,
You may find both sun and rain
But you'll never feel alone!
