ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
AUGUST 2ND, 2011
If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side
It's TUESDAY!
Tonight is National Night Out.
Tonight we encourage the principle of safety in numbers, while still having a little fun! It's a time to promote police and community partnerships. A great night to get to know your neighbors. National night out has proven to be an effective program to promote neighborhood spirit and a safer nation.
An alert and cooperative neighborhood is the best defense against crime
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
NATIONAL ICE CREAM SANDWICH DAY!
Ice cream sandwiches have been around since the early 1900s. Vanilla, chocolate and a combination of the two, are the most popular. You can make homemade sandwiches. Just put some ice cream between a couple wafers, and.. ...Voila! Don't have wafers? That's okay. Put some ice cream between two of your favorite cookies.
Australia originally sold them as Cream Betweens, but now they go by the name Maxibons. In Scotland, they're known as Sliders, which could lead to surprising results for American tourists who might order sliders and expect a plate of those little mini burgers. In Singapore, ice cream sandwiches are available in red bean, yam and honeydew flavors. But if you're not going abroad this summer, you can't go wrong with the classic vanilla ice cream between chocolate cookie. Here is a new twist on this classic snack
PB and J Ice Cream Sandwiches
1 pint vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup peanut butter, creamy or crunchy, you choose
9 full-size graham crackers
1/4 cup jam or jelly
Spoon the ice cream into the mixing bowl. Soften it by leaving the ice cream out on the counter for 10 minutes. Mix the peanut butter into the ice cream with the rubber spatula. Line the baking dish with waxed paper and spread the peanut butter/ ice cream mixture on the waxed paper. Cover the mixture with another sheet of waxed paper, and then put the mixture in the freezer for 20 to 45 minutes, or until solid. Turn the frozen mixture out onto the cutting board, and peel off the waxed paper. Use the chef’s knife to cut the mixture into nine squares the same size as the graham crackers you’re using. With the table knife, spread the jam or jelly on a graham cracker, add a square of peanut butter/ice cream mixture, and top with another graham cracker. Put each finished sandwich in the freezer immediately, so it doesn’t melt before you’ve made them all. You can also wrap each PB&J Ice Cream Sandwich in plastic wrap and store them in a freezer bag in the freezer.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU!
AROUND HOME
Love yourself, love your neighbor, and make this whole world your neighborhood. Always remember that God is love, that life is joy, and that we are one.
Joseph J. Mazzella
It seems the best neighbors I've ever had have been the ones I have at the campground. They are always there to greet you with a hug or a smile and are ready and willing to help when you need an extra hand. Of course some of these neighbors are my family but not all of them for sure.
They are a great group of kind and loving people and represent the way all neighbors should be. Whether we are having fun or working they are just the greatest neighbors I've ever had.
So today I'm saying THANK YOU to you all of them for being such great neighbors. I hope you all are blessed with some good neighbors too.
COUNTING THE DAYS
Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
Yesterday I met a stranger...
Today this stranger is my friend.
Had I not taken the time to say hello, or return a smile, or shake a hand, or listen, I would not have known this person.
Yesterday would have turned into today and our chance meeting would be gone.
Yesterday I hugged someone very dear to me.
Today they are gone... and tomorrow will not bring them back.
Wouldn't it be nice if we all knew tomorrow would be here?
But this is not to be, so take the time TODAY to give a hug, a smile, an I love you...
JUST FOR TODAY,
...smile at a stranger
...listen to someone's heart
...drop a coin where a child can find it
...learn something new, then teach it to someone
...tell someone you're thinking of them
...hug a loved one
...don't hold a grudge
...don't be afraid to say "I'm sorry
...look a child in the eye and tell them how great they are
...don't kill that spider in your house, he's just lost so show him the way out
...look beyond the face of a person into their heart
...make a promise, and keep it
...call someone, for no other reason than to just say "hi"
...show kindness to an animal
...stand up for what you believe in
...smell the rain, feel the breeze, listen to the wind
...use all your senses to their fullest
...cherish all your TODAYS
Today you were thought about by me....
