ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
AUGUST 6TH, 2011
If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side
It's SATURDAY!
WIGGLE YOUR TOES DAY
Wiggle Your Toes Day encourages you to give your little piggy toes some exercise.
Those ten extremities at the ends of your feet, are crying out for a little freedom. Cramped up inside a pair of shoes or sneakers all day long, your stinky toes just don't get the chance to move about freely, as they would like to do.
Celebrate Wiggle Your Toes Day by airing out your toes, and wiggling them around for all to see. The best place to wiggle your toes on a hot August day, is in the pool. Or, sit on a dock and stick your wiggly little toes in the water.
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
National Root Beer Float Day
What's better than an ice cold root beer? Ice cold root beer AND ice cream! Ever since Frank Wisner of Colorado decided to toss in a scoop of vanilla way back in 1893, we've been enjoying this tasty combo that's one part beverage, one part dessert, and totally delicious.
Root Beer Float Cake
1 box white cake mix
3 eggs
1/3 cup oil
1 1/4 cup root beer soda
1 tablespoon root beer flavoring
FROSTING
1 package powdered sugar
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons milk
1 cup shortening, melted
1 egg white
1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
Root beer candy sticks, crushed, for garnish
Pecans, chopped, for garnish
To prepare cake, combine cake mix, three eggs, oil, root beer soda and root beer flavoring. Beat with electric mixer until well blended and smooth. Pour into two well-greased and floured 9 inch round cake pans. Bake at 325F for 28 minutes. Cool on racks.
To prepare fluffy icing: Beat sugar flour milk and shortening 5 minutes. In a separate bowl, beat egg white and flavoring 5 minutes. Combine mixtures; beat 5 minutes. Frost cake with white fluffy icing. Garnish with crushed root beer candy sticks and chopped pecans
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU!
AROUND HOME
I'm convinced that in a past life I was somebody named Occupant, and they're still forwarding my mail.
In the news they said that 3 people from Ohio won the Powerball this week. Well sorry to say, I was NOT one of them. I guess if I wanted to win I should have bought a ticket. After all the years of investing in the Lottery with no big payouts, I decided it was someone eles' turn to win anyway. Needless to say I'll never be rich in money that is, but sure do feel pretty wealthy in the stuff that money can't buy.
Have a wonderful Saturday everyone!
COUNTING THE DAYS
If the first week in August is unusually warm,
the coming Winter will be snowy and long
47 DAYS UNTIL FALL
Keep looking ON THE BRIGHT SIDE of things.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…
Love,
ma
