ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
AUGUST 4TH, 2011
If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side
It's THURSDAY!
COAST GUARD DAY
This military branch was founded on this day in 1790 and was originally known as the Revenue Cutter Service. More than two hundred years later, we celebrate all that the Coast Guard has done to protect our great country! Since 1924, The Coast Guard has been celebrated annually at The Coast Guard Festival in Grand Haven, Michigan.
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
Chocolate Chip Day
Chocolate Chip Day is the celebration of one of the world’s favourite forms of chocolate… You guessed it, chocolate chips!
From cookies to brownies, we all love those tasty hidden nuggets of blended cocoa, and whether you’re a fan of dark, milk or white chocolate this is definitely a day for everyone to appreciate.
So get those oven gloves and your favorite baking recipes, and throw some chocolate chips into the mix!
Outrages Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies
The peanut butter flavor isn’t very strong, but it’s certainly detectable. As for the oats, there are just enough of them to give the cookies some bumpiness. The end results is a chewy, fairly soft, not-too-thick, lumpy, chocolate chip cookie.
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
4 oz (1 stick) unsalted butter
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup rolled oats
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cream both sugars and butter. Beat in peanut butter, vanilla and egg. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt. Add to batter and stir until incorporated. Stir in oats and chips. Drop by tablespoons on to lightly greased, or parchment lined, cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes.
Let sit on cookie sheet for about 3 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling.
Makes about 4 dozen cookies
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
AROUND HOME
It's been pretty quiet here at my house this week. The weather has been hot and humid with some rain but not as hot as it had been. I did hear the weather man say it might cool down some next week. We'll see...
I'm still working on the birthday shawls for the gals birthday gifts in our family and have almost completed the one for August. Next we'll start on the one for September. It keeps me busy and gives me something to do in the evenings. It's a good thing I have the a/c on as it would be too sticky to work on them otherwise.
Hope you all have a wonderful Thursday!
IN THE NEWS
When I was watching the news yesterday I heard that the Ohio Commerce Department is warning Ohio residents to be aware of an e-mail SCAM that is going around telling people that they can get unclaimed funds if they provide certain personal information. DO NOT give any information over the net or in a phone call. Every day it seems something new is happening so it pays to be aware.
COUNTING THE DAYS
For every fog in August,
There will be a snowfall in Winter.
49 DAYS UNTIL FALL
Keep looking ON THE BRIGHT SIDE of things.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…
Love,
ma
