ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FEBRUARY 23rd, 2010
It's TUESDAY!
Thankfully we lucked out on Monday and our rain was just that – rain…not freezing rain. It pretty much rained the whole day and by evening it was starting to get pretty foggy out. Today it’ll be colder and flurry a bit they say.
BEWARE - February through March is mating season for skunks, and people shouldn’t be surprised to suddenly smell that distinctly unpleasant foul odor. According to The Humane Society of the United States, this is a female skunk’s way of warding off unwanted suitors.
The HSUS recommends a recipe that works to deodorize skunked dogs: mix a quart of hydrogen peroxide with a ¼ cup baking soda and teaspoon of liquid dish soap. Wipe down the dog with this recipe then rinse and shampoo
Hopefully you will never need to know this information, but just in case, I thought I’d share it.
THINKING
Fast: from scheduling anything after work today.
Pray: Waste some time with God today
Give: yourself a break today
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
PASTA NIGHT
This is a recipe that I found on a package of Elbow Macaroni years ago
It makes quite a large quantity and I have marked on my recipe card to use ½ of everything. If you go with the recipe as given it will make 25 one cup servings
Pizza Pasta Bake
3 lbs elbow macaroni
½ pound margarine
3 32 oz jars spaghetti sauce
2 tsp. garlic salt
2 tablespoons oregano
2 tablespoons basil
½ teaspoon pepper
2 pounds mozzarella cheese, shredded
¾ pound pepperoni, thinly sliced
1 cup parmesan cheese
Prepare macaroni according to package directions: drain. Add melted margarine, spaghetti sauce and spices. Stir in ½ of mozzarella cheese. Spread in 2 tray pans 12X20X2 Top with remaining mozzarella cheese and sliced pepperoni. Cover with foil. Bake in 350 oven 40 minutes. Uncover and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Bake 5 – 10 minutes more. Refrigerate any leftovers.
Even when my family were all home I cut this recipe in half but if you are serving a crowd it’s great as is.
PRAYERS
O God, may our busyness never crowd out time for you. When we feel frustrated, even worthless, turn our eyes to the cross of Jesus and his sacrifice for us
AMEN
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
AROUND HOME
I was pleasantly surprised to find a Krispy Kreme Donut stand at our Drug Mart yesterday. I love those donuts and hadn’t been able to find any around here. And one of the things they had for sale was a glazed fruit pie. It is almost like the Fry Pies we get in Amish country. We get them often when we are camping as the campground is in the heart of Amish country here in Ohio.
Those little things in life do tend to make me happy!
FAMILY
I had a call from our Sunshine Boy last night. He had to report that he lost another tooth! Now he has one tooth missing on the bottom and one on the top. The tooth fairy was busy last night I’m sure.
I also talked to the rest of the family and DS#4 says he is traveling again for work the next two weeks. As always I’m praying for his safe travels.
COUNTING THE DAYS
No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow
Proverb
25 DAYS UNTIL SPRING !
52 DAYS UNTIL CAMPING SEASON BEGINS
37 DAYS UNTIL MA RETIRES
Keep looking ON THE BRIGHT SIDE of things.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…
Love,
ma

WE had plenty of rain here yesterday as well!! Skunk is such a distinct smell. I can remember trying to describe it to Todd when I first came over here to the UK. (No skunks in the UK) I just couldn't. Last time we were home to Canada though, He got to experience it first hand! A family of skunks once moved into the space under my mother's front porch. You can imagine the problems they caused!!
I once had skunks try to move in under my home. The only way I deterred them was to throw amonia soaks rags and a few mothballs under the foundation (old house with rock wall foundation and wooden basement floor).
It worked, but the basement smelled a little funny for a few months afterwards! What a combination of odors!
I am happy we don't have skunks here in England Ma,the odour I have heard is shocking. The tooth fairy has been around at my eldest son's house too he-he.I carn't remember getting anything from the tooth fairy when I was a child LOL!!The pictures once again I loved getting closer now to spring and camper days and retirement, isn't it a brilliant thought.Thankyou for you kind get well words.Take Care God Bless Kath xx
Your campsite pictures are so beautiful - and inviting! I'd love to venture that far north and visit the Amish country. Maybe one day!
