ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FEBRUARY 1ST, 2010
February is merely as long as is needed to pass the time until March
Dr. J. R. Stockton
It's MONDAY!
We now have a brand new week, a brand new month and a brand new day to look forward to.
February is…
The second month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. It is the shortest month and the only month with fewer than 30 days. The month has 29 days in leap years, when the year number is divisible by four (except for years that are divisible by 100 and not by 400 in the Gregorian calendar). In common years the month has 28 days.
Its birth flower is the Viola (plant) and the Primrose
Its birthstone is the amethyst
THINKING
If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:1-3
First Corinthians 13 is a continuation of Paul’s teaching to the church at Corinth regarding spiritual gifts and growth
Love is the most important part of who we are and what we do.
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
When the babes were young one of their favorite Saturday night suppers was Sloppy Joes and Macaroni Salad. Here is a new idea for making Sloppy Joes
Sausage Pizza Sloppy Joes
1 1/2pounds bulk Italian sausage
1 cup chopped bell peppers and 1 cup chopped onions
1/2cup chopped pepperoni
1can (15 ounces) pizza sauce
1/2teaspoon Italian seasoning
3 roma (plum) tomatoes, coarsely chopped (1 cup)
18 sandwich buns
1 1/4cups shredded mozzarella cheese (5 ounces)
Cook sausage in 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat 9 to 11 minutes, stirring occasionally, until no longer pink; drain.
Spray 3- to 4-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Mix sausage, stir-fry vegetables, pepperoni, pizza sauce and Italian seasoning in cooker.
Cover and cook on Low heat setting 4 to 6 hours.
Stir in tomatoes. To serve, fill buns with sausage mixture and sprinkle with cheese.
For an instant party, set the slow cooker on the counter or buffet table along with a basket of buns. Just add deli salads, pickles, olives and brownies for dessert.
PRAYERS
O God of love, please allow your love to reflect through all that I do and say
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
AROUND HOME
Some food for thought today…I got this info in an e-mail and had never heard this before but it is worth taking note of
Onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked onions.
You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion…it's not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your refrigerator.
It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit,
that it can be a danger to you and doubly watch out for those onions you put in your hotdogs at the baseball park!
Both the onions and the moist potatoes in a potato salad, will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break down.
From now on I’ll be throwing away any unused portions of onions and not saving them like I usually do. Who would have thought…
I did check this out on Snopes and you can read about it here

FAMILY
A right attitude with your family begins with a right attitude toward God
The command to love and respect our parents applies equally to children living at home, newly independent young couples, and empty-nesters.
COUNTING THE DAYS
If we realize the value of our days, we will try to spend them profitably. To have no regrets at life's end and have much reward in heaven, we must make the most of every opportunity
46 DAYS UNTIL SPRING !
74 DAYS UNTIL CAMPING SEASON BEGINS
59 DAYS UNTIL MA RETIRES
Keep looking ON THE BRIGHT SIDE of things.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…
Love,
ma
