For Saturday, February 13th, 2010
a pictorial journal
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
It's SUPER SATURDAY!
Today DD and I head to the Outlet Mall for some President’s Day Sales!
We always have a great time and find some super bargains.
The weather will remain cold in the 20’s and we may have some flurries they say but no big snow storms coming our way. The weather person last night said this will be the way it through the week ahead too.
Thankfully we are not experiencing the big snow that the southern states have been getting. We have enough here already.
THINKING
With Spring not so far away we tend think about lambs and baby chicks and the new life that is coming our way. In our family a new baby will soon be here. DS#6 and his wife won’t have many more days until their new little one is here.
Jesus is our good shepherd taking care of us just as the shepherds tend their flocks and new parents tend to their little ones.
He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young
Isaiah 40:11
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
Saturdays at my house have changed so much over the years. I would often bake on Saturdays so we’d have some special desserts for the weekend and cookies for the week ahead. I haven’t baked many cookies or cakes at all in the past few years. The main reason being if I make it, I’ll be the one eating it all. But when I’m not spending the day shopping I do like to make something that will provide some good leftovers for dinner or lunch in the week ahead.
At my house baked beans have always been the standby for Saturday night
Here’s a recipe that I love
BAKED BEANS the MODERN WAY
Pour 3 to 4 cups canned baked beans into a bean pot or casserole. Add 1 tablespoon vinegar, 1 tablespoon molasses or use brown sugar instead, 1 tablespoon catsup, 3 tablespoons minced onion; blend well. Place 6 hot dogs or smoked sausage links (either whole or cut up) on top of beans. Or crumble fried bacon on top and serve hot dogs or sausage separately. Bake 20 to 30 minutes at 350 degrees F. until heated through and bubbly.
Something I did when the babes were little was to slice the hot dogs ¾ the way down the middle lengthwise. Being careful not to go all the way through so that the hotdog would spread open. Then I’d stick a piece of cheese and a slice of dill pickle in them and secure with a tooth pick. I’d place them on top of the bean mixture and bake until bubbly and the cheese was melted.
I have to say too, that they loved baked tater tots served with this meal.
PRAYERS
We give you thanks, O Lord, that you watch over us as a shepherd watches over a flock. Keep us close to you and seek us if we stray
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
GOD BLESS YOU!
AROUND HOME
I’ve got a few things in mind to look for when I go shopping today. I am going to try to redo the two walls of family pictures that I have in my house so I’m going to be looking for ideas of something different to do with my old arrangements.
We’ll see…
FAMILY
I got a picture of our Princess and her Valentine box that she and her dad made this past weekend...the box they made for valentines had to have at least 2 simple machines...it had a lever, screw, and a pulley. How about that! Not only is it a Valentine Box but it was a science project too!
COUNTING THE DAYS
Spring clothing…light weight and colorful is on my mind too. I’m very tired of the heavy clothing that I’ve been wearing. Some of my winter shirts and sweaters are colorful but not like the pastels of Spring. At the rate we are going we may be having a cold Spring too.
35 DAYS UNTIL SPRING !
62 DAYS UNTIL CAMPING SEASON BEGINS
47 DAYS UNTIL MA RETIRES
Keep looking ON THE BRIGHT SIDE of things.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…
Love,
ma
