The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades.  May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a special occasion!

Today is International Literacy Day which was created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO in 1965. It is a reminder to the international community of the status of literacy and adult learning globally.

Some 776 million adults lack the minimum literacy skills; one in five adults are still not literate and two thirds of them are women.  75 million children are out of school and many more attend irregularly or drop out.  

This holiday strives for total and complete literacy for the world. Literacy can include the ability to understand all forms of communication, be it body language, pictures, videos or sound. 

Celebrate today and thank teachers everywhere who bring literacy to our children.

THOUGHT  FOR TODAY

Read. Everything you can get your hands on.  Read until words become your friends.  Then when you need to find one, they will jump into your mind, waving their hands for you to pick them.  And you can select whichever you like, just like a captain choosing a stickball team.

I consider myself and my family as very literate people. We all went through high school, and most of my children went to college. I’m thankful for the schools they attended and for the teachers they had.  I never went to college but learned a lot more than a high school degree as I have read many books with a lot of different information.

I can’t imagine a life without being able to read.  How could that be possible.  We wouldn’t be able to understand the simplest recipe to make a meal.  

We had rain both Saturday and Sunday and it’s cooled off considerably.  I asked my SIL to turn off the vent for air conditioning in my room as it’s always freezing in there.  Now it’s much better.

Today we’re supposed to reach 90 degrees, but for the immediate future, I don’t see any more 100 degree days!

The pictures today are more of the grandchildren going back to school!

COUNTING MY GIFTS

Literacy is a bridges from misery to hope.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for.  There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

13,641.for our teachers and schools providing literacy to our children

13,642.for lots of books to read

13,643. for badly needed rain and relief from the heat

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS

Please pray for God's protection of

our troops and HIS wisdom for their

commanders.

 

Almighty and eternal God,

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

may the power of your love

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them

they may ever praise you for your loving care.

AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
