Hallmark!

Tonight is the biggest night of the year for the film industry, the Academy Awards!  The first Academy Awards ceremony took place on May 16, 1929.  It was a private dinner party with less than 250 guests in attendance and tickets cost $5.00. The ceremony lasted only 15 minutes.  Today tens of millions tune in worldwide to watch the pomp and circumstance of the ceremony live on television,

The trophy for the Awards is a knight, gripping a crusader’s sword, and standing on a reel of film.  The reel has five spokes representing the original branches of the Academy: actors, director, producers, technicians, and writers.  The statutte is officially known as the Academy Award of Merit, but was nicknamed Oscar in the 1930’s.  They each cost $500.00 to produce and weigh about 8.5 pounds.  

Celebrate tonight and tune in to see who will take home the award for Best Picture and also see who is the best dressed on the red carpet.

The only picture I have of trophies are the ones from a Pinewood Derby Race that one of my grandson’s participated in when he was in Cub Scouts, so that is what the pictures are about in today’s post.  It’s an exciting time for them to see who wins. 

I’m sure the trophies they got didn’t cost anything like the Oscar’s do. But for the boys, they are just as treasured.  

When the cold weather hit us my Daughter decided that I needed to have a TV of my own in my room and a nice recliner rocking chair to sit in. The chair was delivered on Friday but I don’t have my own TV yet, so I’m not sure if I will be seeing the Awards tonight. It depends on if they want to watch it or not.

Meanwhile it’s been a beautiful weekend here with temps in the 80’s and sunny.  March came in like a lamb here for sure. Spring has sprung and the grass is green again and growing. I’ve been able to enjoy many relaxing hours out on the porch again,

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS

Please pray for God's protection of

our troops and HIS wisdom for their

commanders.

 

Almighty and eternal God,

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

may the power of your love

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them

they may ever praise you for your loving care.

AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
