THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Society is fast - fast food, fast cars, fast everything.
B.J. Armstrong
This DIL's birthday is sadly another one of my long distance celebrations. As usual a card will going out to her with lots of birthday wishes and love.
I have to say I don’t eat at many fast food resturants. My fast food these days is usually a frozen dinner that I put in the microwave oven. I keep some on hand for when I don’t feel like cooking. But every now and then I get to enjoy a McDonalds fast food breakfast like a Bacon, Egg and cheese biscuit with a hash brown patty. They are a favorite of mine.
I have also discovered a Hamburger on a Bun that you can microwave and enjoy at home. They come from the frozen food section of our Sam’s Club store. They are very good. One of my grandson’s loves them and that’s how I found out about them.
It’s my day to cook and on the menu today is something quick and easy, but not fast:
American Goulash
Makes 4 servings
1 Tbsp. olive oil
1 1/2 cups chopped onion
1 lb. lean ground beef
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tsp. paprika
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground pepper
1 14 oz. can diced tomatoes undrained
1 8oz. can tomato sauce
1 cup beef broth
1 1/4 cups elbow macaroni
2 Tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese
Heat oil in a large sauce pan over medium high heat. Add onion and beef; cook breaking up meat with a wooden spoon, until no longer pink and onions are tender. Add garlic, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper; cook stirring about 1 minute.
Stir in tomatoes and their juices, tomato sauce and broth. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low, cover and cook for 5 minutes. Add macaroni and cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, until tender. Remove from heat and let stand 5 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if desired.
Serving size is 1 1/2 cups. This was a favorite at our house when the babes were growing up.
It’s also my day to make up a new menu for next week so I can make a shopping list for today. On the menu for next week is:
Monday - Italian Wedding Soup
Wednesday - Slow Cooked Reuben Brats
Friday - Apple Pancakes with Cider Syrup
Weekend - Apple Cider Pork Chops
We are expecting snow today, so I’ll be putting my boots and winter coat on when I go out shopping. Not my favorite weather to be out and about in.
But what can we expect in late November. Before we know it, winter will be here so I might as well get used to it.
Today I’m thankful for the weather, it can always be worse. We get to enjoy the full four seasons here and my favorite is Spring!
We don’t get tired of hot weather, but we get crisp fall breezes. Then the winter comes then we get to enjoy the comforts of home and the holidays. When spring burst into bloom and warmer weather comes we are ready for it.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
Prepared and fast foods have given us time and freedom to see cooking as an art form - a form of creative expression.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
10,794. for an occasional breakfast meal from McDonalds
10,795. for frozen dinners so I don’t have to cook
10,796.for DDIL#2 it’s her birthday
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Fast food is popular because it’s convenient, it’s cheap, and it tastes good. But the real cost of eating fast food never appears on the menu.

While we all appreciate fast food now and then, a steady diet of it is not good for us.
We remember when McD started. We would buy I think 6 for a dollar, take them home dress them up for supper. LOL
I have had problems commenting. I will see if this works.
PS: It did! hope my fortune continues with all blogs.

Tom occasionally enjoys Burger King, but I try not to indulge. Used to be a time Taco Bell made the best 'fast' Mexican and I loved Wendy's chili burgers. Like everywhere it seems, the quality's not what it used to be and the prices are going up. The last time Tom ordered a large Coke and burger/fries his meal was $9-something.
You're right, it's hard to beat McDonald's breakfasts. I still think their sausage egg biscuits are the best!
Happy Birthday to DDIL#2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That quote at the bottom is so true - the real cost of fast foods is not being healthy and weigh gain. I try not to eat there, but I do at times.
Happy 😊 Birthday 🎂 🥳
