ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR THURSDAY, JUNE 4TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Applesauce Cake Day which celebrates applesauce and the applesauce cake. This delicious cake is a moist and is best consumed while it is still hot. The special thing about applesauce cake is that it can be prepared without any butter or oil. Therefore it is a very good alternative for people that love sweet cakes but want to live healthy and low fat.
Applesauce can also replace the eggs in the cake. Using home made applesauce out of good cooking apples is the healthiest way to celebrate this food holiday. Replacing butter and eggs once had a more practical reason. During WWI, people had to find cheap alternatives. And apples sauce offered what they needed.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
Benjamin Franklin
It’s not hard at all to make homemade applesauce and once you try it, it’s hard to go back to the canned variety found on the shelves of the grocery store. So that is what today’s recipe is for.
Applesauce
4 apples, peeled cored and chopped
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
In a sauce pan, combine apples, water, sugar and cinnamon Cover and cook over medium heat for 15 to 20 minutes, or until apples are soft.. Allow to cool and then mash with a fork or potato masher.
Most of the time they they just fall apart on their own as you stir them when cooking. But I like my applesauce on the chunky side so don’t usually mash them.
It’s also a good way to use apples that may have been sitting around for awhile. Waste not want not.
DD is continuing to do my grocery shopping this week, I still have not ventured out to do any shopping on my own and have found out I am saving money this way. When I go shopping on my own I always find things to buy that weren’t on my list. So it’s a double blessing that she does this for me.
Today is grocery day and I’m looking forward to seeing her. Hopefully we can visit for awhile while she is here. It’s supposed to rain again today but we can sit out under the cover of the car port.
I do have to get out soon and put gas in the car. I’m down to a quarter of a tank and don’t want to run out.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!

Home made is always best !
Great point about grocery delivery saving dollars and cents! I'm a little better than Tom, but neither of us are successful at sticking to just what's on the list. Virus or not, that man delights in roaming the store aisles! I remember my mother making applesauce using her dad's old potato masher … funny, but I don't remember anyone actually eating it. LOL! Your recipe certainly sounds easier than what I imagined it would be.
When I was young on the farm, homemade was always how things were made. All except cream of mushroom soup, which became the product in almost all casseroles.
I love all your inspirational quotes! And your sweet family pics!
You are spot on about saving money by ordering! The first month when we were really hunkered down - we spent very little $$. Alas, I have been shopping amazon Prime for birthdays and kitty supplies. I need to hunker down some more. At least my pocketbook!
I think my mom made an applesauce cake 1 time . it was delicious! Hope you did get a chance to visit with your daughter when she came to drop off your groceries.
