Today is also International Picnic Day which is  a great day to enjoy the summer season with an outdoor picnic with friends, family, games and activities and delicious food . 

During the Victorian era, picnics were very important social occasions..  The offered the rare opportunity for young men and women to spend time together in the great outdoors. They were also quite elaborate.  A picnic for twenty people might feature cold salmon , lamb, veal , chicken, ham, pigeon pie, sandwiches, fruit, a selection of cheeses and a variety of baked goods.  The modern day picnic is much less complicated .  In fact, the phrase, it’s a picnic, means , it’s easy.

To celebrate today enjoy an al fresco meal in the company of your loved ones.

DD and dS#3 were born on the same day but one year apart.  For me it was almost like having twins.  They were very close growing up and did everything together.  Where you saw one, you’d see the other.But for today I’ll only be seeing my daughter.  She’s having a cookout to celebrate, but he is unable to come.  I didn’t get any cards mailed out so they’ll both have to consider this email ny birthday wishes for them today .Happy Birthday!

DD and I also have an appointment to get our hair cut today, and afterward I hope to get lunch for her.  Looks like we’ll spending the most part of today together. I made macaroni salad for the cookout.  I rarely get a grilled hot dog or hamburger so I’m looking forward o having one or two this evening. 

It's supposed to be a beautiful summer day but we do have a slight chance of rain. Hopefully not at the cookout.  Except for the last picture, today’s pictures are from about 5 years ago when we were able to all be together.
