ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR THURSDAY, JUNE 11TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Making Life Beautiful Day which is dedicated to encouraging and celebrating men and women who are making life beautiful. Whether you are creating beauty through building relationships or helping others achieve personal success, one small action can lead to a ripple effect, making life beautiful not just for yourself, but for those around you too.
To celebrate today help someone you know to achieve a personal goal, donate time to a worthy cause, help someone less fortunate or just do something nice for someone.
Today is also Corn on the Cob Day, and National German Chocolate Cake Day!

21 reasons I love to be a grandma!
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
It’s a beautiful day and I can’t stop myself from smiling!
Michael Buble
Yesterday I received a gift in the mail, shown in the picture above, from my grandchildren whom you know I’ve been missing thiese days of Pandomendic. It is apparently a belated Mothers Day gift from all my grandchildren and it really cheered me up. It’s a throw that says 21 reasons I’m happy to be a Grandmother and it lists all their names. Now when I’m missing them and have to keep safe distance all I have to do is wrap up in this cozy throw and imagine each one of them giving me a hug.
They certainly make my life more beautiful and I’m very thankful for each and every 21 of them. I can only send virtual hug back
!(((Hugs))))
Hugging is something I’ve really missed these days of self distancing. If I ever have a choice again, I’ll be choosng to not live alone. I had the offer once and foolishly turned it down. I won’t be doing that again. Even though I’d never want to be a burden to anyone else. especially my family, and even though I’m old and stuck in my ways, I’ve learned how good it would be to have someone to hug.
Anyway with this gift, I can hug them all in my arms anytime I want too
After eating nothing but salads for a few days, I decided to cook up a real meal today in the crock pot.
And I’m going to make up yet another salad to have with it. Cucumber and Onion Salad should make the perfect compliment.
Crockpot Green beans hand Ham and Potatoes
2 lbs fresh green beans, rinsed and trimmed
1 large onion, chopped
3 ham hocks
3 1/2 lbs. new potato, quartered
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp seasoning salt
1 tbsp. chicken bouillon granules
ground black pepper to taste
Halve beans if they are large, place in slow cooker with water to barely cover, and add onion and ham hocks. Cover and cook on high until simmering, Reduce heat to low and cook for 2 to 3 hours until beans are crisp but not done
Add potatoes and cook another 45 minutes. While potatoes are cooking remove ham hocks and remove meat from bones. Chop or shred meat and ruturn to slow cooker. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, seasoning salt bullion and pepper. Cook until potatoes are done, then use slotted apron to but it all in a serving dish with a little broth.
I didn’t have ham hocks or fresh green beans so I made this using a chopped up ham slice and canned green beans. Making do with what I have.
For the salad :
1 c water
1/4 c sugar
2 tsp salt
1 tsp peppet
1 cucumber peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick
2 onions sliced and separated into rings.
Whisk water, vinegar and sugar salt and pepper together in a large bowl. Add cucumbers and onion slices and stir to coat. Cover bowl and refrigerate at least 2 hours
I hope you all have a GREAT day Happy Thursday!

It's always wonderful to get an unexpected gift !
What a wonderful gift to be given Ma!!! So precious!!! I bet it gave you a big smile on your face when you opened it!! I know you will cherish it forever!!!
I like the thought of donating or giving to some cause or someone to help them pursue their goal or cause. Might have to look into that!
Sending you a virtual hug. Not the same thing but hope it helps a bit.

What a special gift!! You are blessed. I had corn on the cob yesterday with dinner:)
That's the most thoughtful gift I've seen in a long time! I'd love to have seen the expression on your face when you opened it. :)
Your green beans and ham dish sounds good -- any time of year. Even with the instaPot, I have to admit the slow cooker is actually my favorite.
What a thoughtful gift from your grands! LOVE that pic of you holding the blanket!
