ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SUNDAY, JUNE 28TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Paul Bunyan Day who is one of the best known heroes in American folklore. This legendary lumberjack and his faithful companion Babe the Blue Ox starred in many of the tall tales told in the Midwest during the 1800’s. According to the stories Bunyan was a huge man with an amazing amount of physical strength. He single- handedly founded the logging industry, cut down whole forests in North Dakota, created Lake Superior with his bare hands, and even trained carpenter ants to help him with his tasks.
A young woman named K. Bernice Stewart was the first person to document the original Bunyan tall tales. While studying at the University of Wisconsin in 1914, she gathered the stories from local loggers . Today Paul Bunyan is mentioned in more than 1,000 books and has become one the most widespread icons of American culture.
To celebrate today, read one of the original Bunyan tales.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Folklore used to be passed by word of mouth from one generation to the next; that’s what makes it folklore, as opposed to to, say, history which is written down and stored in an archive.
Jill Lepre
Folklore is stories that have been told over and over and sometimes embellished in the telling. We can learn a lot about our history through these tales. And I think it is important to keep telling the stories so we don’t forget what it took to make our country great. It took a lot of hard working people that had to overcome the wilderness to survive.
We’re to be in the mid 80’s again today and for the better part of this week. It seems as though our summertime weather has finally settled in. People that have pools will be enjoying this nice weather for sure. Here they have opted not to open our community pool but it will also be a good time to do some porch sitting and I have another good book to read so this afternoon I’ll be spending some time out there reading. It will be a relaxing day for me. Today’s pictures are of the sun porch.
I hope you all Have a RELAXING Sunday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
It’s dry, hazy June weather. We are more of the earth, farther from heaven these days.
Henry David Thoreau
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
8231.for tall tales that tell a lot about our history
8232.for a nice comfortable porch to sit on
8233. for lots of books to read
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Pay attention to the tales of old wives. It may well be that they alone keep in memory what it was once needful for the wise to know.
J.R.R. Tolkien
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,

Enjoy the beautiful midsummer weather !
Paul Bunyon and Babe used to be my favorite reading as a child. I'd totally forgotten about that until I read your post.
Yours is a great tablecloth. Happy Sunday, my friend!
I like those retirement rules! Good way to live I do believe! I like what you mentioned about folklore and preserving our history through telling stories. I think we need to continue to do that. These days it seems everyone wants to rewrite our history and tear down statues and monuments that help tell the story. History sometimes isn't the best of stories with what has happened, but we can also learn from it and learn how not to make the same mistakes again.

With the absence of keeping track of days, spring appeared and disappeared. Our summer has arrived and will stay forever.
