ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Columbus Day which honors Christopher Columbus’ arrival to the Americas on October 12, 1492. It’s a national holiday and most banks, post offices and government and city offices are closed.
Although he was not the first European to discover the Americas, Vikings among others had visited before, his journey sparked enthusiasm for European exploration of the hemisphere. There were many in those days that still believed the world was flat. Columbus Day represents the thirst for adventure, exploration and possibilities that embodies the spirt of America.
President Franklin Rosevelt proclaimed Columbus Day a national holiday, observed on the second Monday of October. Many also celebrate their Italian-American heritage on this day.
Happy Columbus Day!
October 8th is also Canadian Thanksgiving Day.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.
Lewis Carroll
This used to be a holiday for schools in our area too, but now they stay open. I’ve read that there are other states where they still close. DD and I used to go shopping in order to take advantage of the Columbus Day sales, but that hasn’t happened either for a good while. The bank I go to had a sign on the window saying they would be closed today so that there employees could participate in community service.
For me it’s an ordinary Monday. I’ll be doing the usual housework and daily tasks, that always begin again after the weekend. They never seem to stop. Once I get done with all there is to do, it starts all over again. It’s good to be reminded though, that life is truly an adventure. It may not be on the level of Christopher Columbus’, but there is always something new to do and to learn.
Today’s holiday tip: Think ahead to the holidays.
A family wardrobe check makes sure everybody will be covered for the seasonal events ahead. It’s time to add what may be needed to the shopping list or to declutter and get rid of what is not needed .
I’ve been seeing a lot of halloween costumes in the stores lately, so it’s probably a good time to get one of those too, if you haven’t already done so. Or maybe think about what you’d need to make your own.
My focus is going to be in the kitchen this week. Cleaning the counters, the outsides of all appliances and the floor. At this point I can barely see the top of my fridge. My favorite all purpose cleaner is windex, it makes everything clean and shiny. It may take more than one day, but it will eventually get done. That’s life in slow lane for you!
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
All things are possible until they are proved impossible - and even the impossible may only be so as of now.

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Celebrate every day and be thankful for it !
I never thought of using Windex for more than windows or glass. I'll have to try it as a general type of cleaner. The schools are closed all week this week for fall break, but I'm thinking other places are closed as well because hubby's commute was lighter this morning. Good holiday tip about a winter wardrobe. Heading to the store tomorrow to get some long sleeve shorts and pants for grandson. I try to get him every season a week's worth of outfits, I think I mentioned that before. Our weather has changed now in the last few days and gotten cooler so he'll be needing them before long.

It’s already half past noon and I’m still propped up in bed with my morning coffee! It seems to me I have been running around like a crazy lady for a solid month and this past weekend just about did me in! So I’m in rest and recover mode......
I’m doing the same thing you are today. Cleaning my house room by room and it may only be one room a day! It’s therapy for me.....putting order to chaos and turning dingy to sparklingly clean. I know we do this over and over and over again......but in a way it really is an adventure in living. A humble blessing not to be taken for granted. I do so enjoy my morning visits with you and have missed being her for so long. I’m back now and happy to be here! Wishing you a good productive week!
It is cold here today. Well in the 50's which to me is cold. I know there will be no mail delivery today but not sure about the schools. I will get out of touch now that I have no one at home to gauge it off of. I'm not cleaning today. But I should be. I am just enjoying the quiet!
We totally spaced today being Columbus Day … and drove over to the V.A. to discover it closed! (Thankfully, it's not far.) There's a private school catty-corner from us that was closed today; not sure about the rest.
Windex is such a great product! I have, however, begun using rubbing alcohol on my granite countertops to cut the grease (kitchen) and build-up hair spray in the bathroom.
