ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Ancestor Appreciation Day which reminds us to learn more about those who came before us. Many of us are unaware of our ancestors and the lives they lived, yet they almost certainly went a long way towards shaping our habits, traditions and values today.
The internet can be a wonderful tool when it comes to researching genealogy and varies online resources will help you to find records of your family’s history, learn about your ancestors and their way of life and even create a detailed family tree.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I am proud of all my ancestresses. They showed us that it is possible to do great things and still live a happy, pleasure filled life. So can I; so can you.
Maria Rodale
It is good to know where your roots are and and how we came to live where we do. My ancestors came European countries and settled here trying to make a better life for themselves. It was not easy at all for any of them. On my mothers side they came in the 1700’s and on my fathers side of the family they came in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
I know they had to have been adventuresome and strong people and I’m thankful that I am where I am because of them. Who knows where I might have been without their courageous endeavors to live in a country far from where they came from.
I know my my maternal grandmother loved to sew and crochet, so maybe that is where my love of crafting came from. She had a treadle sewing machine and taught me how to sew on it. Her hands were rarely still and she was always busy making one thing or another, whether it was quilting or making doilies. I call her my hero. She inspired me to do more than I ever could have, had she not passed on her knowledge.
Today’s holiday tip:
Dedicate a space to store gift items, gift wrap and cards. You can stockpile gift items and everything needed to warp and present them. Tucking away a nice selections of gifts for different occasions allows you to take advantage of sales and clearance items which cuts the cost of gift giving.
I remember the days when I used to do a lot of catalog shopping for my children. Our front door opened directly across from the coat closet. When packages were delivered, I could scoot them right into the closet for safe keeping and I’d lock the door to keep them from being discovered. After I’d wrap them I’d store them in an attic storage closet until the time came to give them away. That worked out until they became older and their curiosity got the better of them. Ha!
Now I don’t have to worry about anyone discovering their gifts ahead of time, and as I don’t have a lot of storage space, that is a good thing! My stash is located in my craft nook here and it’s not very big.
The pictures today are from my daughter. They went hiking in the hills of one of our many Ohio state parks recently and the views were just beautiful. The last time I was there they didn’t have the nice walkways they do now, then we had nothing but dirt trails.
We are to have a much drier day here today and tomorrow is to be a sunny one, so hopefully that will be my day for yard work this week. The grass has not grown a whole lot but I do have leaves and acorns to mulch. We have just begun leaf season. From here on out that is pretty much what my yard work will consist of. Most of the leaves on the trees are still green so I have many weeks of mulching ahead. It’s much easier for me than raking.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Our ancestors dwell in the attics of our brains as they do in the spiraling chains of knowledge hidden in every cell of our bodies.
Shirley Abbott

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their

Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
The ancestors of all of us came across that same ocean in some ship. We must learn not only to live together, but learn to see one another as people rather than as stereotypes.
Alex Haley
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,

Life is a wonderful adventure!
Love your Holiday Tips and your pictures from your daughters hike! My daughter likes hiking also! I have always loved doing family history. I think it is really interesting learning about where we come from, and about our roots! It totally fascinates me! I had my DNA done lDt year and that was also pretty special! Xoxo
It looked like such a pretty place for a hike! Great holiday tip. I remember when the kids were younger I would wrap their presents almost as soon as I got them from the store or through catalogs. I always tried to wrap them in another box so they couldn't guess what was in it. I was even surprised on Christmas morning when they unwrapped some of the gifts because I had forgotten what we had gotten them :)

Beautiful pictures, Pam! Ya. When I consider my own ancestors, I'm humbled beyond measure. Although I grew up far from their little farm in Minnesota, the times I did get to spend with my maternal grandparents were pivotal. They had very little in the way of material things, but took much joy in their family and friends.
