This is another one of those long distance birthdays I celebrate and as usual a card was sent off in the mail.  This lovely granddaughter is growing up fast and I wish her the best as she goes through life. She is indeed a pretty lady!

Today is also Step In A Puddle And Splash Your Friends Day which gives you an excuse to have some fun or even get revenge by jumping in puddles and splashing your friend.  Strange as it seems, it is raining here today.  We’ve warmed up and after a slippery start yesterday morning, the rain moved in.  All the snow is melting away again.  We’re to be warmer until Friday when we drop below freezing again and have a chance snow again on Saturday.

WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN

There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!

Today is Milk Day which was created to celebrate the first time milk was delivered in glass bottles. Prior to 

this, conditions for milk delivery were fairly unsanitary but the new bottles enabled safe and clean storage.

Today’s recipe is for homemade Cream of Chicken Soup  which makes the equivalent of about 2 cans of condensed cream of chicken soup.

2 1/2 cups chicken broth 

 1 1/2 cups milk

3/4 cup flour

1 tablespoon seasoning mix or on your own, 1/2 tsp. onion powder, 1/2 tsp. garlic powder, 1/2 tsp. black pepper, 1 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. parsley

Combine the chicken broth and 1/2 cup of the milk in a large saucepan. Bring to a low boil.

Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk the flour and seasonings into the remaining 1 cup milk until a smooth, thick mixture forms.

Pour the flour and milk mixture into the saucepan with the broth mixture over low heat and stir continuously, whisking as the mixture simmers. Continue to simmer and stir/whisk until the mixture is smooth and thick, 5 to 10 minutes. The mixture will thicken a bit as it cools
