Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Festival of Sleep Day which is an opportunity to sleep in, snooze, doze, nap, and catch 40 winks. It is the perfect date for Festival of Sleep Day. The holidays are over and they were exhausting! It's cold and snowy and time to hibernate. Whether its all day, a full 8 hours, or just a power nap, enjoy the day sleeping.
Caution: Sleeping at work is not recommended, today, or any day.
Warning: The Surgeon General has determined that sleeping is good for your health.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
No day is so bad it can't be fixed with a nap.
Carrie Snow
One thing I manage to do well is to sleep. I often get in one or two naps a day and sleep well at night too. Some say when they get older they don’t need as much sleep, but the older I get, it seems I need more. Especially in the winter. It’s hibernation time for me.
Today’s pictures are from New Years Day at DS#5’s house. Dinner was delicious and we managed to have a little fun too with a Pie In The Face game Mr. Wonderful got for Christmas.
I spent yesterday in the kitchen cleaning up and trying to make it appear less cluttered. My sister came over to help for awhile too. The countertops now have more room on them. That is a good thing. Today I’m going to try and do the same in the dining room.
A little something done is better than nothing anyway.
I'm not asleep... but that doesn't mean I'm awake.

I hope you all have a TERRIFIC Tuesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It Chocolate Covered Cherry Day!
Just in case you haven’t indulged enough over holidays, Chocolate Covered Cherry Day is an excuse to break open a box of chocolate covered cherries and dig right in!
I love them and right now have a box on the table to dive into when I need a sweet treat. Today’s cookie recipe sounds like it would be right up my alley too.
Chocolate Covered Cherry Cookies
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
48undrained maraschino cherries, about one 10 ounce jar
6 ounces semisweet chocolate pieces
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
In a mixing bowl combine flour and cocoa; set aside. In a large mixing bowl beat the butter or margarine with an electric mixer on medium to high speed about 30 seconds or until softened. Add sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Beat until well combined. Add egg and vanilla. Beat well. Gradually beat in the flour mixture.
Shape dough into 1 inch balls; place on ungreased baking sheet. Press down center of each ball with thumb. Drain maraschino cherries, reserving juice. Place a cherry in the center of each cookie. In a small saucepan combine the chocolate pieces and sweetened condensed milk; heat until chocolate is melted. Stir in 4 teaspoons of the reserved cherry juice.
Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the frosting over each cherry on unbaked cookie, spreading to cover cherry. Frosting may be thinned with additional cherry juice, if necessary.
Bake in 350 degree oven about 10 minutes or until done. Remove to wire rack; cool. Cover and store at room temperature up to 2 days. Makes 48 cookies.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Have courage for the great sorrows of life, and patience for the small ones. When you have laboriously accomplished your daily tasks, go to sleep in peace. God is awake.

I love the pictures! I wish I could sleep like you. I go to sleep easily when I go to bed, but wake up at 1 AM and after that, I'm lucky if I get any more sleep.
