Today is Ditch Your New Years Resolutions Day. If you haven't broken or given up all of those New Year's resolutions, you're doing better than most of us. Maybe, you're well along the way to accomplishing them. Maybe, a few are already checked off on your list. Good for you!
For many of us, New Years resolutions are hanging heavily over our heads. They have become a burden, and perhaps were not such a good idea after all. If you haven't accomplished, broken, or given up your New Year's resolutions, today is your chance to get out from under them.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.
Oprah Winfrey
I really did not make any resolutions for the new year, but did choose a watchword for the year: beginnings. This is definitely a year of new beginnings for me.
Keeping in mind that every day is a fresh start, a new beginning, I’m trying to make the most of every moment. One day at a time and sometimes one moment at a time is the best way to live. We cannot enjoy today if we are worried about tomorrow.
Moving forward, one step at a time, I do have a plan and do a bit every day to reach my goals.
They say we’ll have some rain today, but still that is better than snow. One can only wonder at this point what February will bring.
I hope you all have a TERRIFIC Tuesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
Today is Hot Buttered Rum Day! Hot buttered rum is a warm alcoholic beverage flavored with butter, salt, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and cloves. These ingredients form a batter that is then mixed with rich, dark rum.
For a non alcoholic version, just don’t add the rum. It’s wonderful for a chilly evening, after a lovely dinner. Sit back and relax!
NON ALCOHOLIC HOT BUTTERED RUM
1 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. sifted powdered sugar
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 pt. vanilla ice cream, softened
1 tsp. rum flavoring
Cream together butter, sugars, nutmeg, cinnamon and rum flavoring with electric mixer. Blend in softened ice cream. Turn into a 4 cup freezer container. Seal and freeze.
To serve: Spoon 2 to 4 tablespoons of mixture into mug. Add 1/2 cup boiling water. Stir well. Garnish with cinnamon stick. Great in coffee, too!
Makes 12 to 24 servings.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.
T.S. Eliot
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4579. for new beginnings, they happen every day
4580. for a hot drink to take the chill off on a cold day
4581. for another day to get it right
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY

Michael Josephson
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

I think when people make New Year resolutions or goals, they need to be realistic in trying to keep them. I think people sometimes make bigger goals/resolutions than they are actually able to keep. Simple goals that can be added to are the way to go; somewhat like choosing a word for the year, as you have with the word beginnings. It helps keep one focused on what they want to accomplish in the new year ahead rather than too much that might get them bogged down and then not be able to accomplish what they want to accomplish.

I don't make resolutions. But I have goals. I loved the pictures today! Winter and birds are a great combination! I have always wanted to taste hot buttered rum!
So glad you shared this recipe! My mother used to make hot buttered rum batter with ice cream, but never wrote the directions ... and I'd totally forgotten that goodness until now!
When I got a fitness tracker for Christmas I vowed to start walking the block at least 3x each week. Twice. I've walked twice. "Loser, party of one!" (LOL)
