74 DAYS UNTIL SPRING
Sunrise: 7:54 am
Sunset: 5:13 pm
Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is National Bird Day which was established by bird activists. It calls upon people to recognize the plight of captive birds. It also draws attention to exploitation of birds in the pet industry. On this day, organizers suggest we reflect upon the conditions of birds held in captivity.
Approximately 12 percent of the world’s bird species could face extinction in the next century. That includes nearly a third of the 330 different species of parrots. Things don’t look a lot better for numerous species of songbirds, not to mention some penguin species and others like the kiwi bird.
The largest components of these threats of extinction are habitat destruction and pet trade. The survival of the world’s birds hinges on public awareness as well as support for conservation.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I heard the sweet voice of a robin,
High up in the maple tree,Joyously, singing his happy song
To his feathered mate, in glee!…
If we could be like this tiny bird,
Just living from day to day,
Holding no bitterness in our hearts
For those we meet on our way…
Gertrude Tooley Buckingham
I guess we all tend to love birds. I know I enjoy watching them and listening to their songs. Robins especially remind me to Cheer Up, Cheer Up! And I’m really looking forward to seeing them return in the Spring.
It’s definitely gotten colder here, but I’ve been inside for the most part this week. Working at what seems to be an unending job here of sorting up and packing up. There is some light at the end of the tunnel now and I’m labeling boxes of things I will be keeping.
I can only hope that soon I’ll be able to move on from this particular stage of life. New beginnings happen every day and today I’m looking forward to them.
Thankfully I am finally feeling much better. The cold that I caught before Christmas left me quite out of sorts for a couple of weeks, but now it is about gone and I’ve regained a little of the energy I lost.
It’s about 18 degrees this morning and our high for today is only supposed to get up to 21 they say. Take good care every one and keep warm !
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Whipped Cream Day!
This holiday, which falls on the birthday of Reddi Wip founder Aaron ‘Bunny' Lapin, celebrates the ice cream topper, and its contribution to the dessert world. While whipped cream existed long before Lapin, it wasn’t until 1946 and the invention of the aerosol canister that the treat took off as many know it to be today.
You don't need pressurized cans to do the trick though. Whipped cream is light, refreshing, and easy to make. When you whisk a little sugar into high fat cream, you add air to the mixture and wind up with whipped cream.
I couldn’t help but to use the picture of DS#5 with whipped cream on his face today. Proving once again that Whipped Cream has many uses ! Ha !
COUNTING MY GIFTS
A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.
Chinese Proverb
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4543. for birds, they play vital roles in our ecosystems.
4544. for cream, especially when it’s whipped
4545. for new beginnings, they happen every day
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU !
ADVICE FOR TODAY
It is a fact that in the right formation, the lifting power of many wings can achieve twice the distance of any bird flying alone.

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Glad you are feeling better, Ma! I hope soon you'll be done with all your decluttering and packing up with what you are keeping as you move on to your next season of life. You've been diligently working on it for quite a few months now. I'm sure it is tedious and you'll be glad when it is done!
betty
I am not seeing many birds in my backyard today. It is snowing and only 1* outside. Even the feathered friends seek solace from this cold!! Glad you are feeling better
So glad you're feeling better!
For most of my childhood we had resident canaries; rather, one at a time -- each named "Bobby." Even at an early age, I was responsible for changing its papers and making sure it had fresh food and water. The Bobby's all seemed happy and sang beautifully, but none lived more than a few years. In retrospect, I wonder if they weren't terribly lonely.
So pleased that you are feeling better Pam! You have been in my prayers. I love the pie face photo. How very cute! I am a person who doesn't believe in caging animals except for their own protection and in very rare cases. I think animals and especially birds should be free to fly and soar and explore their surroundings. I hate cages. We get a lot of sparrows in our garden and we enjoy them. We feed and hope that one day we will get something more exotic, but the sparrows need us too. I hope you continue to feel better with every day that passes. Stay warm! xoxo
