60 DAYS UNTIL SPRING

Today is Tin Can Day. Tin cans are part of virtually everyone's lives. They've changed the way we store food, and allowed for safe, long term storage of so many foods.
On January 19, 1825, Ezra Daggett and Thomas Kensett received the U.S. tin can patent. The celebration of National Tin Can Day is in recognition of this event.
The tin can was a great invention, that positively changed the way many foods were safely stored, and for long durations.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The path of civilization is paved with tin cans.

I have a nicely stocked pantry cupboard full of canned foods. I buy ahead when different things go on sale since
canned food can be kept on the shelf for quite some time, I stock up. It’s good to remember that as you use up stored cans you should rotate the new to the back and bring the older ones to the front. We need to watch the expiration date too. They don’t last forever. And don’t forget those cans are recyclable too.
Today I’m back at the fine tuning on the sorting and packing and hopefully will be able to donate a few more boxes of things to the Salvation Army. Even though I’ve gotten rid of a lot, it’s still not enough. I must pare down even more.
The weather continues to be unusually warm for January and I’m certainly thankful for that. Even though spring is some time away yet, I decided to include some Spring pictures in today’s post. I’m very much thinking Spring!
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
Today is Popcorn Day, a day to organize an impromptu movie night, just so that you can enjoy a tub or two of crunchy, salty and buttery popcorn. Or, if you have a sweet tooth, treat yourself to some delicious caramel popcorn.
Depending on how it is prepared and cooked, some consider popcorn to be a health food, while others caution against it for a variety of reasons. Air popped popcorn is naturally high in dietary fiber and antioxidants, low in calories and fat, and free of sugar and sodium. This can make it an attractive snack to people with dietary restrictions.
I prefer to pop my popcorn in a pan on the stove and like it far better than the microwave method that has become so popular due to the convenience. I heat 1 tablespoon oil in a pan, add a few kernels of popcorn and let them sizzle in the pan till one pops then add 1/2 cup pop corn kernels, cover the pan and shake around a bit while leaving on the heat till the popping stops, then pour into a bowl and give it a bit of melted butter and salt to taste.
This method works for me and makes a great bowl of popcorn every time.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Success comes in cans, not cant's.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4585. for a well stocked pantry
4586. for popcorn, a healthy snack
4587. for a multitude of things to give away, hopefully they’ll help someone who needs them
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY

Nice to hear the weather is being kind to you, Ma! Anything to help get through the drudgery of winter before springtime arrives! Maybe you'll be moving in spring, that would be nice! We too try to stock up on canned goods as they go on sale and we too rotate them around. Always good to have on hand for quick meals sometimes!
betty
You had me at "crunchy, salty and buttery"! Yummmmm.
My Chicago cousins used to pop their corn in their fireplace and sprinkle garlic salt on top. Gosh, that was back in 1965 and I still remember how good it tasted.
