51 DAYS UNTIL SPRING

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is the Chinese New Year which is the year of the Rooster, Chinese Zodiac animal figure. It is a Yin, Negative, year. The date of Chinese New Years changes every year. It is a 15 day celebration, beginning on the first day of the new moon, and ends on the full moon. The celebration on the 15th day is called the Chinese Lantern Festival.
Chinese culture is amongst the oldest in the world. While the rest of the world is in the early years of but the third millennium, Chinese culture is in their fifth millennium.
In Chinese astrology, every year is represented by an animal. The cycle is twelve years, with a different animal each year.
It is celebrated with festivities, fireworks, brightly colored lights, special meals with family and gift giving. Like Christmas in the western world, most Chinese travel home to be with family for the new year celebration.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Each day the world is born anew for him who takes it rightly.
James Russell Lowell
While we here in the US have already celebrated the New Year 2017, others are just beginning theres. We all had hopes for this new bright shinny new year and pray for a good one for ourselves and for others too.
I always try to remember that while every day may not be a good one, there is something good to be found in every day if we take the time to look for it. Every day is a new beginning and every day is a gift.
One thing I know for sure, maybe two, is that everything happens for a reason and that God is in control. We need to hang in there no matter the circumstances and do the best we can with what we are given.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
PRAYER REQUESTS
A friend has written that she too would also appreciate prayers for her oldest son, who has been diagnosed with Lyme Disease. She says it’s a horribly painful disease. May the dear Lord bless him with healing and ease the pain.
We still don’t know what is at the root of the problems that DS#1 has, Hopefully we’ll know much more today. Please pray for a good outcome from all the testing and a favorable treatment so that he can get better soon.
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
Today is Blueberry Pancake Day!
Here’s a new to me recipe that I found to share with you all today
Oatmeal Blueberry Pancakes
1 cup old fashioned oats
2 eggs
4 Tbsp. canola oil
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
2 1/2 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
In a large mixing bowl, combine the oatmeal and the buttermilk and let sit for 20 minutes. After the 20 minutes, add the eggs, vanilla and oil and mix well. Add the flours, sugar, powder, soda, salt and cinnamon and mix until incorporated. Gently mix in the fresh blueberries.
Heat your griddle to 350 degrees. Drop the thick batter onto the griddle, spread into a circle shape and cook for 3 minutes, flip and then cook for 2 or 3 more minutes or until batter is not raw but not over cooked. Serve warm with fresh whipped cream, maple syrup or both.
Makes about 6 larger size pancakes.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
And now let us believe in a long year that is given to us, new, untouched, full of things that have never been…

I did hear on the news this morning about the Chinese New Year and I guess a lot of Chinese wear red today, must be a good luck color. Always indeed good to find in each and every day. Praying for your son and your friend's son with Lyme disease.

Happy Chinese New Year! Continuing prayers for your #1!
Another New Year?
Since I began January 1 with baby steps BACKWARDS, I'm going to embrace this 'second chance'!
Continued prayers for DS#1 ... the unknown can be pretty scary, indeed!
