THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.

Happy New Year to you all ! It is a time for new beginnings here at my house. For the first time I can remember it’ll be DS#5 fixing our pork and sauerkraut dinner. I’ve done that for the family for many years. But this year will be all about new beginnings.
I’ll be off to church as usual this morning though, and I expect it will not be overly crowded as many were up late celebrating New Years’ Eve.
It was pleasant New Year’s Eve here. DS#6 spent New Years Eve morning helping me with some more packing up and brought breakfast with him when he came. Then DD and her family joined me for dinner since I won’t see them today. We opened Chinese Fortune Cookies to get our New Year’s fortune for fun. Our little X Factor’s said: Your life’s foundation is becoming quite strong. Something nice to hear for a 4 year old. I fell asleep watching TV and then woke up to the neighborhood fireworks at midnight.
It’s warming up here and it’s supposed to be a nice day so once again what snow we have will melt. We’re to have a couple of warmer days the beginning of the coming week too. Maybe we’re having our January thaw early this year. However, they say we’ll soon be back in the 20’s which is more seasonable January weather.
Today will be a Happy New Year with dinner at DS#5’s house later on.
I hope you all have a RELAXING Sunday! Happy New Year!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
Today is Bloody Mary Day which celebrates Bloody Mary cocktails, Described by some as the perfect hangover cure despite containing the very thing that made you hung over in the first place, alcohol! The Bloody Mary is most often made with vodka, tomato juice and some spices, served on the rocks with a celery stalk or a dill pickle.
If you’d like to make one for yourself, here’s the recipe. Keep in mind that its a good drink to try even without the alcohol, which is how I think I’ll have mine.
Classic Bloody Mary recipe:
serves 2
2 lime wedges
4 oz high quality vodka
8 oz Tomato juice
4 dashes Tabasco Sauce
4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
2 pinches celery salt
2 pinches ground black pepper
2 pinches smoked paprika
Put a little celery salt onto a small plate. Rub the juicy side of a lime wedge along the lip of a pint glass. Then, roll the outer edge of the glass in celery salt to coat it; repeat with the second glass. Put some ice cubes in both glasses and set aside. Put the lime wedges into a shaker and add the remaining ingredients. Shake gently several times, then strain into the prepared glasses. Garnish with a celery stalk and the leftover 2 lime wedges.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

What cool pictures! :)))
I, too, enjoy my Bloody Mary's sans alcohol. (Vodka is NOT my friend. LOL!)
The sauerkraut and pork sounds really yummy. Last night I drained the black-eyed peas then discovered I'd forgotten to thaw the ham hock. 'Wound up throwing in a big old can of collard greens, diced tomato, chicken boullion cubes and a pound of Conecuh sausage in the crockpot ... and hoped for the best. Both Tom and I were shocked how good it is on this chilly, damp morning.
We are having black eyed peas, meatloaf and creamed potatoes.
Black eyed peas supposed to bring good luck during the year. I wish I liked bloody Marys but I don't for some reason. George loves them. Especially when they are loaded down with appetizers like shrimp, celery and so forth. Some restaurants go really over board with it. lol
Have a wonderful 2017. I'm still doing the private blog for now and will be setting up a new blog before too long.
Its good to start new traditions with familiar food, so I'm sure dinner being made by DDIL#5 will be delicious! Sounded like a fun evening celebrating with the fortune cookies; what a cute tradition to do!
