THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Today, fill your cup of life with sunshine and laughter.
Dodinsky
For a nice change this DIL lives close by and I got to see her this past weekend more than once and was able to give her birthday greetings in person.Too often my family members are far away but I am blessed to have a few that live close by.
They say today is also Clean Up Your Room Day. If you been avoiding your spring cleaning this year, today is the day to get motivated! Whether you decide to tackle a messy closet, a mounting pile of laundry, a whole room, or even the entire house, it’ll be well worth the effort.
The tradition of spring cleaning dates back to the days when people relied on fire to light and heat their homes through the winter. After months of being shut up with no fresh air, everything in the house would be covered in soot and ash. Spring cleaning traditionally took place on the first warm day of the season. The entire family would roll up their sleeves and move all the furniture and linens outdoors. They would then clean the house from top to bottom, scrubbing down the walls, beating the dirt out of the carpets, and dusting everything in sight.
I can’t drag everything out of the house and wash it all down but I do need to do some spring cleaning. I’ve procrastinated a lot. Spring will still be with us for over a month so maybe in that time I’ll get it done.
Looks like a rainy week around here with temps in the 60’s.
I hope you all have a TERRIFIC Tuesday !
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Shrimp Day!
Shrimp is the most popular seafood choice but, surprisingly, even though we fill our plates with shrimp cocktail and happily dip shrimp after shrimp into that spicy red sauce, experts agree that Americans don’t include enough seafood in their diets. It is recommended that we have two servings of seafood a week.
Commonly referred to as prawns outside of North America, shrimp are a popular, inexpensive seafood that can be prepared in so many ways.
Shrimp Salad
Makes 2 servings
24 cooked shrimp, cleaned
2/3 cup mayonnaise
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
2/3 cup celery, finely sliced
1 cantaloupe
Mix mayonnaise, lemon juice, fresh chopped parsley, and seasoning in a two quart bowl.
Add the celery and shrimp. Mix well. Refrigerate until served.
Prepare Cantaloup: Cut in half. Remove seeds. Cut a small flat slice on bottom skin side of cantaloupe to make it stand. Fill with shrimp salad and garnish with fresh chopped parsley.
This sounds like a meal to me and as the weather warms up, more and more of my meals are salads.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
I am thankful for the mess to clean after a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends.
Nancie J. Carmody
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
3847. for DDIL#5, it’s her birthday today
3848. for a rainy day inside to get some cleaning done
3849. for electric lights which help to brighten up even the darkest day
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU !
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Better keep yourself clean and bright; you are the window through which you must see the world.

I did not know that fact about spring housekeeping. The nice thing about not having electric lights would be not being able to see the dust and the cobwebs all over. Or the ash that had settled on everything. But I am grateful for electricity!! And I need to quit procrastinating and get to cleaning also!!
Your blog posts are ALWAYS a sheer delight. I'm so glad you're still online. Sometimes when we ourselves leave cyberspace for awhile, we fear that those folks whose posts we looked forward to will have left as well. Again, I'm so glad you're still here.
Blessings on your evening & week~ Andrea
XOXOXO
Happy birthday to your DDIL#5! I like shrimp and that recipe looks like a keeper to do down the road! Been doing a bit of spring cleaning here with the new house, spiffing it up a bit :)
