49 DAYS UNTIL SUMMER

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is Brothers and Sisters Day which is a day to cherish your siblings. Sure, there are times when you love your brothers and sisters. And, there's times when you want to disown them. All in all, having a brother or a sister or two, is invaluable. The older you get, the more you learn to appreciate them.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Being a family means you are a part of something very wonderful. It means you will love and be loved for the rest of your life.
Lisa Weedn
The pictures today are of my children. Six brothers and one sister. They have always been very close and I hope they remain that way. I do have two sisters of my own that I love dearly and I appreciate them both very much. I am the big sister, the oldest of three .
There were many occasions for my family to be together this past summer when we came together for a family reunion and for almost a week we did lots of things together. Happy times for sure! I have shown these pictures before, but they are the only recent ones I have of them all together. Some of the pictures still don’t include everyone. Every day was something different. These days time and distance keep them apart a lot of the time so being together was a very special time.
I cannot say enough about the importance of family. Treasure your brothers and sisters.
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday !
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Truffles Day
According to legend, a man named Louis Dufour invented the chocolate truffle in Chambéry, France in 1895. A few years later, Antoine Dufour opened the Prestat Chocolate Shop in London. Historians believe this chocolate shop was solely responsible for popularizing chocolate truffles in England and beyond.
The first recipes for chocolate truffles appeared in the 1920s. Today there are three main types: American, European, and Swiss. Each type of truffle has a slightly different twist, but they all include a creamy ganache filling and a topping like cocoa, coconut, or drizzled chocolate. Make this day another good reason to enjoy some chocolate ! I’ve never made my own chocolate truffles but here is a recipe in case you’d like to try it.
Chocolate Truffles
6 ounces semisweet baking chocolate or white baking bars, white chocolate, chopped
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1 tablespoon shortening
1 cup semisweet or milk chocolate chips or white baking chips
Finely chopped nuts or candy decorations, if desired
Cover cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Melt baking chocolate in heavy 2-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly; remove from heat. Stir in butter until melted; stir in whipping cream. Refrigerate 10 to 15 minutes, stirring frequently, just until thick enough to hold a shape.
Drop mixture by teaspoonfuls onto cookie sheet. Shape into balls. If mixture is too sticky, refrigerate until firm enough to shape. Freeze 30 minutes.
Heat shortening and chocolate chips over low heat, stirring constantly, until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth; remove from heat. Dip truffles, one at a time, into chocolate. Place on aluminum foil covered cookie sheet. Immediately sprinkle some of the truffles with finely chopped nuts or decorating candies.
Refrigerate truffles about 10 minutes or until coating is set. Drizzle some of the truffles with mixture of 1/4 cup powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon milk. Refrigerate just until set. Serve at room temperature. Store in airtight container.

Love your family. Excuse me today I don't have time to make the truffles. It's raining AGAIN.
Yum on the truffles! Such a beautiful family you have, Ma! It is neat too how close your children are with each other, even though distance separates some of them!
betty
Six boys! You must be a SAINT! xx
Myra sent me to your blog. What a wonderful family you have. I'll bet that one girl was loved and smothered by all those boys. The truffles recipe sounds delicious. I like the idea of finding 3 things to be thankful for!!
