24 DAYS UNTIL SUMMER

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Sun Screen Day which educates and brings awareness to the importance of using sunscreen to protect yourself and your children from harmful UV rays from the sun. This day is held on May 27th, just in advance of the summer and vacation season.
Ultraviolet rays from the sun is a serious risk to your health. With the steady depletion of the ozone layer above the earth, more and stronger UV rays get through. Overexposure to the sun can cause a number of health problems. It can cause skin cancer, and sunspots. It can also result in premature aging of your skin.
Doctors and medical professionals advocate the use of sunscreen, to guard against health problems. They recommend an Skin Protection factor of 15 or more. Sunscreens should be used for all outdoor activities, including swimming. Sun screens should also be used on cloudy days. UV rays can penetrate through the clouds.
Now get out and celebrate Sun Screen Day in the sun...with your sun screen protection!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I'm so glad my window looks east into the sunrising.... It's so splendid to see the morning coming up over those long hills and glowing through those sharp fir tops. It's new every morning, and I feel as if I washed my very soul in that bath of earliest sunshine.
L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
It’s nice to have some sunshine here at my house, but when it gets hot out, I stay mainly in the shade. I used to use sunscreen regularly when I knew I’d be out in the sun for any length of time, but these days, I’m not in it long enough to matter.
Typically we’d be in the 70’s right now but this week is in the upper 80’s and yesterday, I turned the air conditioning on. I waited until the thermostat read 78 degrees inside. I really don’t keep it set much lower than that but it does take the humidity out of the air so it feels cooler inside
I also have the front porch where it is cooler and shady and always a relaxing place to spend some time. I’ve several good books to read and a pitcher of iced tea in the fridge. Sunshine and tea make for a great combination.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday !
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Grape Popsicle Day!
Is there nothing better than an ice cold popsicle on a sweltering summer day? I found this recipe for Jello Gelatin Pops that can be made in any flavor. It’s your choice!
1 cup boiling water
1 package, 4 serving size, gelatin powder, any flavor
1/3 cup sugar
1 1/3 cup cold water
6 paper or plastic cups, 5 ounce size
6 wooden pop sticks
Stir boiling water into gelatin and sugar in medium bowl at least 2 minutes until completely dissolved.
Stir in cold water. Pour into paper cups. Freeze about 2 hours or until almost firm. Insert pop stick into each cup for handle. Freeze for 3 more hours or overnight until firm.
To remove pops from cups, place bottoms of cups under warm running water for 15 seconds. Press firmly on bottoms of cups to release pops. Do not twist or pull pop sticks. Store leftover pops in freezer.

ADVICE FOR TODAY
I think you might dispense with half your doctors if you would only consult Dr. Sun more.

Yum on the popsicle, always a favorite on a hot summer day. We keep our thermostat at 77 degrees here which so far has been comfortable, sometimes I will bump it up to 80 if it is not too warm outside. Seems like you have a good plan to keep cool with a good book, a cold drink and a nice porch to sit on.

How much we love Popsicles at our house. Grape, however, is not my favorite. It is so humid here that it feels hot! Have a good weekend at your house!
