38 DAYS UNTIL SUMMER

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
It’s Friday the 13th and it’s the only one in 2016. If you are you superstitious, then, Friday the 13th is a day you may look forward to with fear! Friday the 13th is an unlucky day, a day when bad things can happen. Whatever you do, don't walk under a ladder, and don't let a black cat cross your path on this day.
Throughout most of recorded history, the number 13 has been seen as an unlucky number. If you live in fear of the number 13, you suffer from Triskaidekaphobia.
Like any other special day, we are encouraged to fully embrace the day and have fun with it. But, don't cower in your room in fear of this day. You'd miss all of the fun and excitement!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
Fridays have always been good days for me and I’m not terribly superstitious at all. Matter of fact, most Friday the 13th’s have been very good days for me.
As we go through our daily lives, we face many challenges, and often these challenges can bring about fear. We may fear the loss of something, or perhaps the lack of fulfillment. We may experience fear when going on a job interview or a first date.
The greatest challenge with fear is that it can hold us back from achieving our goals, but it doesn’t have to. We weren’t made to live in fear. Did you know that there are 365 mentions of the phrase Fear Not in the Bible, one for every day. The only fear in the Bible is the fear of God. Fear is the enemy of confidence. Fear not means don't run. Fear and faith are the opposites. Some have said, fear is faith in the negative.
Remember to have faith, not fear.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday !
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
Today is National Apple Pie Day.
Apple pie is an American favorite. DDIL’s#6’s grandma makes a delicious apple pie in a cake pan and it feeds a crowd. I don’t have her recipe but I looked for one that was similar and this is what I found.
Apple Pie Slices
These bars are just like Apple pie and the recipe serves 20
1 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 egg yolks
3/4 cup white sugar
1 pinch salt
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons milk
1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup milk
9 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
2 tablespoons white sugar
2 egg whites
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan.
In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and salt. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Combine the egg yolks and 1/2 cup of milk, stir into the flour mixture. On a lightly floured surface, roll half of the dough out to the size of the prepared pan. Cover the inside of the pan with the dough. Spread dough with a light coating of egg white. Fill with sliced apples and sprinkle sugar and cinnamon on top. Roll out remaining dough and place on top of apples. Brush with a light coating of egg white.
Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, until the crust is golden. In a small bowl, beat together the confectioners' sugar, salt, vanilla and milk until smooth. Drizzle over cooled bars, cut into squares.
Note: You could also omit the icing and just sprinkle the crust with sugar while it’s still warm

I heard today is also a full moon so it is an extra special Friday the 13th. Didn't realize it was the only one for the year either :)
I like that thought that fear is negative faith. That's good to remember. It is also comforting to know how many times the phrase "fear not" is in the Bible :)
Fridays are always so nice to come to; they seem to be coming closer and closer together these days.
betty
I had a good Friday the 13th, bought a new American flag for my porch and did some shopping at my Kmart superstore, which will soon be closed. It is close by and I am going to miss it. I bought Jowl bacon which you never see anywhere. One of the employees said most will go to other stores, thankfully.
I've never been superstitious... probably because I never grew up with superstition. Friday the 13's and full moons and black cats crossing my path and all the rest... I never give those things a second thought. But I know many folks do & have a genuine fear of that type of thing. That's sad.
Have a wonderful Saturday!! XOXO
