Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Eat a Cranberry Day is celebrated on November 23rd of each year. Cranberries are good for you. Cranberries are excellent sources of antioxidants, fiber, vitamin C, and do wonders for the body's toxin-removal system; it's no wonder the puckering red berry has a national holiday! Native to North America, cranberries are grown in bogs, and are primarily grown in New England. When the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, they found Native Americans harvesting them, and eating them. Native Americans also used them as dyes for clothing, and for medicinal purposes.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
It has been an unchallengeable American doctrine that cranberry sauce, a pink goo with overtones of sugared tomatoes, is a delectable necessity of the Thanksgiving board and that turkey is uneatable without it.

I do love cranberries but I’ve no special recipes for cranberries to share with you today. I love the sauce that comes in a can and although I only have it on Thanksgiving, it would be good to have with any chicken or turkey dish. Dried cranberries mixed into your chicken salad recipe is delicious. I often mix cranberry juice in with my iced tea. It is refreshing and good for you too. I also like the special edition Thomas English Muffins that come out this time every year that have cranberries in them and just recently I bought some cranberry scones that I found in the grocery store. mmmmm….good.
The week ahead looks to be a much quieter one here at my house. After our family celebration and all the preparation of this past week, that is a good thing. Today I’m going to be doing a little resting up.
We had such a great family day yesterday. I love it when most of my family can be together. I’d like it even better if the holidays meant we could all be together, but I am thankful for the ones that can make it. Many thanks to DS#6 and his wife for hosting this years’ feast !!!
I hope you all have a restful and relaxing Sunday !
31 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS
December will soon blow in with a flurry of holiday invitations. If you're a parent of young children, don't miss out: arrange for child care early. Babysitters' schedules fill up early, too, so book your favorite grand’ma’ soon.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Refreshing, tangy and tart , fresh cranberries add nutrients and zip to any meal.
I have counted at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for 2 years and have now reached over 2000 gifts. On my way now to 3000. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.
2246. for cranberries, good for you and good tasting too!
2247. for a day to rest and reset for the new week ahead
2248. for my family, near and far

That was a good Christmas tip about finding baby sitters, Ma! Glad you enjoyed your time celebrating Thanksgiving with your familly! I know times together with family are very special times indeed!
I too like cranberry. It was always a tradition to have cranberry sauce growing up for Thanksgiving. Last year son made homemade cranberry sauce that came out pretty good. I have a recipe that goes into the crockpot with chicken and cranberries. I made it last year and served it with stuffing and it almost seemed like Thanksgiving :)
betty
I never thought of adding the cranberry juice to iced tea. What a great twist!
Personally, I'm not so fond of the jellied (canned) cranberry ... I think it might stem from (wasn't it?) the late 50's or early 60's when there was this big health scare about canned cranberries.
Soooo glad your family get-together was a great one!
Loved all your words and tips here this morning Pam. I am so glad you had a nice time with your family. I love cranberries. I always have done. I keep them in my freezer all the time. Just a month from today we will be sitting on Christmas Eve. This year has just sped by. I wanted to ask you if you could please keep my youngest son in your prayers in the New Year as he heads off to Iraq. He doesn't really want me telling people, but this mother's heart wants all the prayers for his safety that she can get. Thanks! I know you are a special prayer warrior! xxoo
