Life is a Special Occasion!

Root Beer Float Day is celebrated on August 6th every year. Between the luxurious vanilla ice cream and the sumptuous root beer foam, how can any individual resist this delightful beverage? This amazingly refreshing summer treat has its own special day to celebrate its undeniable brilliance.
Towards the end of the 19th century, a gentleman named Frank Wisner created the first root beer float. Strangely, this float was nicknamed the 'black cow'. If you are wondering how to make one of these superb drinks, then simply add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to a cold glass of root beer. The taste of root beer float makes the taste buds tingle with utter excitement.
To celebrate Root Beer Float Day why not create your own float?

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time.
John Lubbock
I do love a good root beer float and they are very easy to make. I’m fresh out of root beer right now so I’m thinking I’d better pick up some soon and some vanilla ice cream too. It may be a good dessert to have when I do dinner for my family this coming Sunday. I’m having it the 2nd Sunday instead of the 3rd Sunday this month because DS#5 will be getting ready for our county fair the 3rd Sunday and wouldn’t be able to be here. Most of the time it is my daughter and her family and DS#5 and his family that come over as they are the ones that live here in town.
I’m going to be trying out a new recipe for dinner too. It looked good but was too much for me to make for my self so the babes will get to be my taste testers.
Chicken and Noodles
2 cans Condensed Cream of Chicken Soup
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
8 large carrots, thickly sliced
8 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
4 cups egg noodles, cooked and drained
Chopped fresh parsley
Stir the soup, water, lemon juice, mustard, garlic powder and carrots in a 3 1/2-quart slow cooker. Add the chicken and turn to coat.
Cover and cook on LOW for 7 to 8 hours or until the chicken is cooked through. Serve with the noodles. Sprinkle with the parsley. I’ll be adding some celery and onion to the mix too as I think they add a lot of flavor.
Some days I just like to sit back and watch the clouds float by. It’s good to take time out and just be. It’s refreshing and with a little root beer in hand what could be more perfect as we approach the ending of summer. I know we still have till September to enjoy what is officially known as summer but when school starts here it seems its over. DS#1 mentioned that his children only have this week left before they are back is school there.
We were without power overnight here, I think it was because of a transformer. The electricity just now came back on here at 10 o’clock the morning. I’m hoping it stays on now.
I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday and get to enjoy a root beer float too!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.
Rabindranath Tagore
I have counted at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for over a year and have now reached 1900 gifts. On my way to 2000. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.

ADVICE FOR TODAY
When the tide of life turns against you
And the current upsets your boat,
Don't waste tears on what might have been,
Just lie on your back and float.

I wondered why your blogs weren't up first thing in the morning when I checked, Ma, but it makes sense with the power being out. Glad you are up and running now! I like that recipe; I think I'll try it for a potluck. I also like root beer floats, haven't had one in awhile, might have to get the stuff and have one today!
