Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Coast Guard Day, celebrate on August 4th, honors the courageous work of coast guards. When Hurricane Katrina struck the Atlantic coast of America, the US Coast Guardsmen saved over 33,500 lives, an estimated 24,000 of these were rescued from peril in severely dangerous conditions.
Salute Coast Guard personnel today and every day!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:16
In honor of the Coast Guard, today’s pictures are of a trip from last summer to the Marblehead Lighthouse here in Ohio. The shores of Lake Erie are always a beautiful place to visit, especially in the summer. There is no beach to be had there. It’s a rocky part of the shoreline. But I do love the beach even though I don’t get there often at all.
Sailors looked for the lighthouses to warn them of the dangerous areas in extremely stormy weather, or foggy conditions. Lighthouses lead others to the safe harbors. Lighthouses shine their light for all to see.
Just like the coast guard and light houses guide and help others, I think some people are like that too. They let their light shine. A smile is one way we can do that. Just letting someone know we care enough to share a smile or a cheery hello. If you open your eyes and ears, there are countless opportunities to share a little light with others right around of you.
It looks like another quiet week here at my house. I hope you all have a HAPPY Monday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
We are each gifted in a unique and important way. It is our privilege and our adventure to discover our own special light.
Evelyn Dunbar
I have counted at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for over a year and have now reached 1900 gifts. On my way to 2000. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.
1913. for the coast guard that helps others
1914. for light houses, their light guides us through storms

ADVICE FOR TODAY
We are told to let our light shine, and if it does, we won't need to tell anybody it does. Lighthouses don't fire cannons to call attention to their shining - they just shine.
Dwight L. Moody
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

What a pretty area to visit, Ma! So true we all have the capacity to let our light shine so to speak and might just take something as "little" as a smile.
